2005 ford ranger edge 3.0
2005 ford ranger edge 3.0
Was driving just fine and the truck lost all power and died. Tried to crank up and turns over but won’t fire off. Towed it home and the next day it turned over and barley started if you would even call it that then it was spitting and sputtering and started running fine for about 2 seconds then started running bad and died. Sometimes it fires up and sometimes it just turns over. Have fuel to the fuel rail. Fuel filter is good. Have a new ignition coil about 3 months old. Have no idea what the issue is. Any insight would be helpful.
Have to ask.......................................
Gas gauges fail, is there gas in the tank for sure, not pretty sure, add a few gallons even if there is small doubt
Chased my tail a few times with a bad gas gauge
Reads like a failing fuel pump
Radio off, roll down window, listen
Turn key on
You will hear the fuel pump in the gas tank run for 2 seconds
Repeat key off then on as much as you need, to either confirm you hear it running OR do not hear it running
Unhook negative battery cable and wait 5 min then hook it back up, this resets the computer and other vehicle modules
Do the 50/50 test
Spray fuel into the engine
Try to start
If it starts, runs and dies, then fuel delivery issue
If it doesn't start then spark issue
50/50 instant results no guessing
Couple of simple things to look for
CEL(check engine light) should come on with key on, means computer has booted up, if CEL flashes after boot up then computer issue
CEL should go OFF as soon as you start cranking the engine over, that means computer is getting a good timing pulse from crank sensor so it starts spark and then 1 second later fuel injectors
2005 needs 60psi fuel pressure, so "fuel at the rail" doesn't mean much unless it SPRAYED out a lot, tires only have 30psi, and they spit out air pretty hard, lol
3.0l in some years would die if Cam sensor failed, cam sensor is on the oil pump shaft so no Cam sensor signal can mean no oil pump, so you do not want the engine to run or start, lol
But this is an extreme longshot
