1988 2.9 ranger giving me nothing but issues
When I first bought the truck it ran good. Then a week later it started bucking real hard then wouldn’t start. So replace distributor, all spark wires, spark plugs, fuel pressure regulator, air control sensor, and one more thing I can’t remember at the moment. Then it ran again for a year, still had the bucking issue but it was fine to drive to and from work. 3 weeks ago it was bucking really bad and then it would almost shut off while driving, so it would buck, backfire, and almost shut off. So I shut it off and turned it back on. Which made it calm down to get it home. Went to start it next morning wouldn’t start. I checked the fusible links and nothing is visually burnt or falling apart, I replaced the starter solenoid and now I’m lost on what to do next any help would be lovely. Oh and the inertia switch isn’t tripped! Thanks
With a crank but no start do the 50/50 test
Spray fuel into the intake
Try to start
If it starts, runs and dies you have a fuel delivery issue, usually fuel pump
If it doesn't start then spark issue
50/50 no guessing
Bucking issue could be fuel pressure or MAP sensor, check its vacuum hose for leaks and unplug its 3 wire connector and plug it back in, that cleans the contacts, this is good to do on ANY connectors that are 15+ years old, lol
New parts are often not needed because the problem was just the connection was dirty, so replacing the part works because you have to unplug it to replace it, lol
