I have a 1991 Ranger 2.9 v6 4x4 with a 5 speed and it has the following problem:
The truck runs fine when you start it up cold, but after it warms up to temp it starts to lose power, sputter and miss like it's not getting fuel; the idle is also low and rough, and it doesn't really want to rev up. If you then shut the truck off it is almost impossible to get it to start again until after it cools off. It is not overheating.
All the manual 2.9's I've driven idle a little high and also rev themself when you push the clutch in, and this one did too, and still does when cold, but it stops doing all that when the issue kicks in.
I replaced the Idle Air Control Valve, the Throttle Position Sensor, and the Fuel Pump is not even a year old (it spews from the rail with pretty decent pressure so I don't think it's a fuel issue)
The check engine light is on, as it has been since I bought the truck 4 years ago, and I can't get it to show any codes when I use the test plug.
I really love this truck and it's been my best friend till this spring, when the water pump went out, and replacing that somehow seduced the power steering pump to fail, then the starter chewed off a bit of the flywheel (and the starter also snapped in half like the Titanic when I removed it) and the flywheel thing led to a new clutch, and then that caused the clutch master cylinder to explode, and so I just replaced all the hydraulic system. I almost decided to let this thing become a parts truck for my Bronco II, since I really want a Ranger Splash extended cab, but no, I decided to spend all this money on it because I like it (and also it is a fairly clean and rust free 91)
I may take the Map Sensor and ECM from my Bronco II and see if they help it.
