P0402 code after valve cover gaskets
P0402 code after valve cover gaskets
Had a fair amount of disassembly involved with valve cover gasket replacement. After welding up the valve covers because they were rusted to the point where they were leaking, I reassembled and took it for a test drive and it runs a bit rough and seems to be hard to start after it shut off at operating temperature. The code I pulled was p402 which said there was too much EGR being fed to the engine. I'm thinking it's possible I have the vacuum hoses switched at the vacuum valve that is hooked to the EGR and the manifold. There was obviously a problem before in the vehicle's history that ended up with a repair or modification to the plug that is normally one piece with two hoses going to it so the connections are separate but I'm not certain that they were ever connected correctly. I'm pretty certain that I hooked it up the way I disconnected it but does anyone have an idea which port goes to the EGR and which port should go to the manifold vacuum? I assume it makes a world of difference which port the vacuum is hooked to from the manifold as it is an electrically switched vacuum switch that regulates the vacuum to the EGR when it's called for. I sure do appreciate people here sharing. Doing valve covers on a 4 l and a 97 Ranger was not one of the most desirable jobs I've ever done but it was doable even while I'm working 60 hours a week. Thanks again
