Finding a grounding out wire
Hello everyone, I'm new here and hopefully can get some help. This is really driving me crazy. I've got a 2011 Ranger XLT 4x4. Had a transmission issue, but the engine was running fine. After I put a transmission in, I started it up and the engine wouldn't idle, was rough and threw a code. The only way to keep it running was to keep pressing on the gas. Then, it smelt like the cat was clogged. The code that came up was for the EVAP purge valve. I changed it the next day, but it still did the same thing and more codes came up. A bunch of codes. It gave me the purge valve circuit, EGR, idle air controller, MAF sensor, and all 4 O2 heater circuits. They were all saying circuit. I checked all the components and all I found was the bank 2 downstream O2 had a broken wire. I put a new one in, and still got the same thing. I hired a mechanic to come out, and he said the cats were clogged. He checked the temp, and the right manifold was at 150deg, while the cat was at 380deg. And that was only after about 2 minutes of run time at high idle. So, I cleaned the cats out, and checked air flow with a compressor, and it was getting good air flow. So, since all the codes said circuit, I checked continuity between the positive battery terminal and the engine block, and got continuity. This is telling me I have a hot wire grounding out somewhere. The problem now is, finding the bad wire! Does anyone have any ideas on how to do this, or has anyone seen this before? This is my work truck, and I can't work if I don't have a truck. Thank you very much.
Update, I just found out the coating on the bank 1 upstream O2 is off all 4 wires, but they aren't touching and ground and they're not completely broke. I made sure to seperate them. Not a sensor I'm looking forward to change. If you know, you know. Lol. It's the hardest of all 4 sensors to change.
