Possible fuel or eleltrical issue
I've got a 2001 Ranger. 3.0L GAS. Not long ago I had to replace my fuel pump. The reason I bring this up is after doing that is when I started having this issue. After filling up, a few miles later I was idling in a parking lot and the engine just died. Started back up no problem. About 7miles down the road it stumbled a few times but immediately went back to running great. Ran fine for about almost a month. Just the other day after filling up it stalled on me while stopping for a light. Started back up fine. A few more miles down the road it stumbled a couple of times and went back to running fine and it's been running fine since then. Not sure if it's electrical or fuel. It's not throwing any codes. Trash in the tank getting stirred up when I fill up and maybe some trash making its way thru the lines? Coil pack? Anyone ever have this issue? Any ideas? Thanks.
I would consider checking your fuel pressure with a pressure gauge you can rent from one of the auto parts stores. Try and rule out the fuel filter and fuel pump. You may also want to check to see that your getting enough air into the engine. Perhaps your throttle body is gunked up and getting stuck or the idler is gunked up such that not enough air is getting past when at an idle to maintain combustion. May want to inspect that and clean them if necessary.
Chrisfix and the 1A Auto videos on Youtube have some helpful topics on diagnosing issues regarding fuel and idler stuff that might be worth consulting. Worse comes down to it, you could pay a mechanic to diagnose it and then consider fixing it yourself if it isn't too much of a bear.
Sorry I can't be more help!
