ChatGPT saved me 3K

Been getting small evap leak codes that evolved into cat codes and took it into a shop for a full diag and they said I need a new cat and gas cap for an astronomical sum. Took it to ChatGPT who pulled from history on how this era of the 3.0L is notorious for this and suggested a new purge canister valve. The part was like 80.00 and it turns out it was the issue all along.

Glad you saved 3k but on a different note, if you would have paid 3k for a gas cap and new cat that would have been something to take to a psychiatrist to see if you had lost your mind. LOL

Ha! Yeah, it was mostly for the Cat, but they threw in a line item for the gas cap for 80.00 rotfl. Fed me some line that the new one I put on wasn’t factory or something and I was just like, “dude, it’s a gas cap.”
anyway, happy I found the real issue. Been running smooth ever since I replaced the purge canister and ChatGPT told me that it’s common for a faulty one to show those codes on a 3.0L Mechanics should use it more to diagnose.

Those evap leaks are tricky ones! Glad you got it fixed, I did the same to my 4.0.
