Gem issue NEED HELP!!! 1999 4x4 manual
So i have an early 1999 for ranger xlt 3.0FF, manual trans and door locks... the 4x4 doesnt not engauge and the control modual can be heard clicking. no lights on dash, no repsonce after using the switch.
Backstory:
i got the truck cheap with a "wiring issue", no dome light and intermittent 4x4 function. we then found leaks in the vaccume so we converted it to manual hubs and lifted it. eventually the 4x4 stopped working entirly so we traced it alll the way to the gem (long road). we bought 5-6 differnt gems for this model and year of truck (XL5T-14B205-EC) all of them (other than the orginal) would allow the 4x4 to funtion perfectly as intended HOWEVER... some would have no dome light and the speedo would be like 1000 miles too fast, or the wipers would go crazy, or just the speedo would be fast (like you hit 90mph just backing out of the parking spot)... none of them worked as they should, but it told me that it was indeed a GEM/BCM issue. so i sent the original to UpFix. it worked for about a year, dome light worked, speedo good, 4x4 working 100%. until it sat for a month er so. after that it had a flashing air bag light and ran a code for a EGR which we repalce and cleard the codes... since then, no 4x4 at all, checked the fuse box for corrsion, cecked the realys, checked and repalced the 4x4 control module (the clicking sound) just incase... i have another gem with a fast speed issue that i can slap in and the 4x4 work great along with everything else other than speedo being 100x too fast. gem was under warrentee so i sent it BACK in and it just got home with no evedence that it was checked and same issue that it had when it left.
Question:
Is there a way to make the gem with the speedo issue work in place of the orginal in this truck? or a place that can make 1 good GEM out of 2 without charging me $700+? i really have no idea how these gems work, but im very tired of this issue... id love a manual T-case, but its a specific model and year of truck that id need to do the swap and finding a 2003 FX4 with a manula tranfercase isnt easy at all. i even though bout spending the extra 1k on a manual conversion for the transfercase... but thats more money and time i have to sink into this ******* thing and im really getting fed up... its a great looking and running truck and its setup really well IF THE 4X4 WOULD WORK AS IT SHOULD, lol. please help!!!
