Icon4 Random intermittent shut-off/No crank

2006 Ranger 4.0 XLT 4x4 Automatic..... Vehicle will just randomly shutoff while driving. When this happens it will either not crank over or cranks over violently as if cylinders are hydrolocked or timing has jumped. When the shutoff/no crank problem presents itself I have noticed all the lights in the instrument cluster will illuminate as normal EXCEPT the check engine light. The CEL does not illuminate. If I unhook battery and wait a while the CEL illuminates with all the other lights and then it will crank over just fine and start as if it were a new vehicle. The shutoff seems to be entirely random and intermittent meaning cold engine, warm engine, short drive(300yards) or long drive, slow speed or fast. So far, I have replaced the battery and when I did I was able to drive further before the shutoff occurred, but still no cranked when it did shut off. I have checked stuff like connections, fuses, and relays to no avail. I'm at a loss now and considering throwing an ECM at it, but thought I'd seek insight here first. Thoughts?

When the truck will actually run it runs great and has zero issues.
