2017 Ford Ranger Wildtrak – intermittent electrical flicker when pulling away

Hi all,

I’ve got an intermittent electrical issue that I’m trying to get to the bottom of.

It only happens as I initially pull away — either in drive or reverse. As I press the accelerator to move off, I get a brief flicker where:
  • The dash/clocks dim momentarily
  • The green headlight indicator comes on (and possibly the headlights themselves, although I haven’t fully confirmed that yet)
  • The interior light flickers on
It’s just a split-second event, then everything goes back to normal.

A few key points:
  • It can happen from cold or when fully warmed up
  • Only occurs at the moment of initial movement
  • Never happens while driving, revving, braking, or cruising
  • It’s intermittent — sometimes it won’t happen at all during a drive, other times it may happen more frequently
What I’ve checked so far:
  • Battery tested — healthy and around 18 months old
  • Battery terminals removed, cleaned, and refitted
  • Battery-to-chassis earth removed and cleaned (looked clean anyway)
I’ve had a suggestion it could be the body control module, but I’m not sure how to confirm that or whether it’s a common failure.

Has anyone experienced this exact issue, or got any ideas what might cause it?

Thanks in advance 👍
