Ok so driving my truck (automatic) it sometimes slips and really kicks into second gear and other times its perfectly fine. I can be crusing or just flooring it, it doesnt matter. Also when I start it in the morning going from park to reverse sometimes take a few seconds to shift, and going from reverse to drive it does the same.

So my question is, what could be doing this? Its going to the dealer tomorrow because it only has 31k miles on it and I cant do the work myself because its under warrenty. I dunno trannys really either, but what could cause it to be acting weird?

 

If a seal broke a pressure imbalance could be created. Auto trannies have lotsa lil paths and **** and A seal broke on mine so pretty much a gear wouldn't work properly.

 

Did it damage your tranny?

 

I drove fine with it for a few months before i really *noticed*. PRetty much it'd take off hard in 1st, jump second gear, and land in 3rd. I thought it was jus deciding to be fast haha. After A while i took it in though. And the tranny wasn't actually damaged. Just a seal.

 

Well I guess I shouldnt worry since Ford still has it under warranty anyway. Hope its just a seal tho and not some huge thing where I wont have a truck for a while.

 

Haha the seal took em a week to fix mine. You're talkin about a Ford Dealership! With my warranty it cost me $500 bucks for them to fix it. My parents don't really like me to do stuff like swapping in new transmissions.

I bought my truck in washington used with a 1 year warranty. I was 16 at the time, I didn't understand how that warranty worked.

did you take your truck in for the additive? there is a recall for 2004 rangers with autos because of improper fluid installed from the factory.

 

Zachs right there was a letter sent out about it a while ago. There quick fix is to add an additive but if you got the cash save yourself a lot of headache down the road and do a complete flush

 

Try resetting it by removing the negative battery cable for 20min.
It will relearn its shift patterns...

i bought a stick shift just because i think ford is too retarded to build a good auto tranny. i used to deliver parts for pep boys and every ranger there had tranny problems .
