$20 for a Haynes manual ought to let you know if it's something you want to tackle.

look at changing the timing belt in the haynes. Isn't the seal built into the timing cover?

She might have a grooved balancer. If so replacing the seal won't be all you need. They should make a repair sleeve for the 4.0. If it is grooved, clean the balancer and fill the groove with JB weld or whatever, sand and polish it down to the original diameter and install the repair sleeve. When I lack time, I have installed the sleeve and not changed the seal, saved me time and it worked every time I tried it. Time saved is in front cover gasket , and the supreme care required to not have / cause a leak at the pan ; if you aren't changing that gasket also. Good luck , bob

Bob, is this the plastic piece between the crankshaft and the pulley?

There are a few guys around that have put the 4.0 underdrive crank pulley on so there should be some used original pulleys out there.
