Which magnaflow?
Which magnaflow?
I decided I want a Magnaflow muffler. I searched and found them to be what Im looking for. Next I started looking for the muffler. Well there are a lot of different choices of Magnaflow mufflers. I want a single 2.25 inlet with a single, or dual outlet. Questions... Will there be much sound difference between a single outlet and a double outlet? Second, is there a difference in sound between the round and oval models? I have a 99 4.0 that is mostly stock motor wise. I want a nice rumble at idle and a little attention when driving. I dont want an annoying raspy sound. Anyone got some answers? I also don't want to remove any cats. I would also like to know if the pipe going straight back vs. a 90 degree exit will make a difference?
I have the Magnaflow 2.5 in, and 2.5 Dual outlet. With the magnaflow dual exhaust, what i found in my experience, with the exhaust tips they give you, you will get a nice deep tone, pretty loud when cruising. If you really want some noise, i went with magnaflows 4'' exhaust tips Part # 35109. Youll get ALOT more noise out of those, mine at about 3,000 RPM's in 3rd gear will set car alarms off, WITH all my cats, and stock manafolds. The magnaflow dual exahust kit with the 4'' tips and K&N intake will make your truck SCREAM, Trust me.
The single kit ive never heard, but seeing how it has an increased diameter in the tailpipe im guessing it sounds relatively the same? But ive always found the dual out the back to be louder then a single, just more places to get the noise to exit etc etc.

basically, sound will be determined by case size, the larger the case, the quieter it will be. when you decide which one you want to go with, just let me know, ill get you a good price and match anyone elses.
Hi, new here, but anyway, I've just put in, a couple of weeks ago, a new cat back, custom from a local speed/muffler shop.
I went with the magnaflow 18 in. oval with 2.5 in exhaust pipe, no tip, it has a nice low rumble and is not obnoxiously loud, (the diam. between the cat and muffler is 2.25).
I'm told, by the guy who made and installed, a 14 in. sounds nice but at higher rpm's and acceleration, you would have to crank up your tunes, you'll get a bit more noise in the cabin. It all depends on what your after I guess.

ps: btw I'm old lol (mid 40's) and only wanted the better performance, not the noise, so I'm guessing a 14 in. would be good, a bit louder but not obnoxious

YAY!

Description: 5x8x14" Body, 2-1/2" Single In, 2-1/2" Dual Out perfect...like i said i had the exhaust shop neck down the 2 1/2" outlets to 2 1/4 and i feel that was a very smart idea and he agreed. dual 2 1/2" tail pipes seemed a little large for a stock 4.SOHC.
