I only get around 14 MPG most of the time due to the fact that I drive .5 miles to work everyday. My engine never fully warms up and we all know short drives kill mileage.

Went on a big road trip this weekend. I filled up and dumped in a bottle of Lucus Fuel Treatment and took off. Filled up when I got home and it figured to 19.5 MPG.

I hope with an E-fan and maybe some other stuff to get 20 MPG, which is were I would like it to be.

I feel my exhaust did pick up a few horses and alittle milage.

 

Lucky you. When I drive on the Highway I think I get around 18.5mpg with my only performance mod being FlowMaster dual exhaust.

 

congrats, i drive 30+ miles to work and i never get better than 18mpg

 

Its un-freakin' believable how much slowing down helps. I've been taking it easy and went from 13.8 or so to 17. That is stop and go, no highway.

 

Not to be rude, but does it strike anyone as sad that 19mpg is something to be excited about? lol It wouldnt be so bad if gas wasn't so expensive. ahhh what are ya gonna do?

yeah...stop and go is bad for me too. but it REALLY helps if you dont always have a heavy foot.

 

I remember in 1998 gas was like $.89 a gallon. I would fill up my Grand Am for $10 and drive around like a fool.

Yeah....at $3 a gallon gas I wish I was getting 25 MPG!

 

I'm getting a pretty steady 21.5 and on depending on the day and where I get my gas I get upwards of 22.5. I was getting 18.5-20 MPG then I changed motor and tranny over to Amsoil that was the biggest help.

I have a ~36 mile drive to work with 2/3's of it highway and the other city/country. I figure it with the calc also.....

 

when i went up to pick up parts in PA (with my stock tires) i got 20.6 mpg but that was a pretty long trip

This weekend i did about 400 miles i averaged about 19.6 m pg

 

I drive about 60 miles to work, about 25 miles is mostly country, with two small cities that I have to slow down in. The other part is freeway. I usually get about 22-24mpg with no upgrades or anything.

 

what's the proper way to figure mileage?

here's how I do it.

-Fill up tank
-Note how many gallons it took to fill
-Reset odometer
-Drive till close too empty
-Note mileage on odometer
-divide mileage on odometer by gallons it took to fill up tank

Same here, I drive 58 miles each way, almost all freeway though, after modding exhaust to 2.5 in and magnaflow 18 in. muffler and air box mod, I average 25.6 mpg, thats using approx 15 tanks to figure out the mpg.

 

From reading the posts concerning the topic of MPG; the stock 4.0L SOHC appears to get better gas mileage than the OHV by at least 4 mpg. The 4x2 appears to get about 2-3 mpg more than the 4x4 version.
The previous post states a average of 25.6 mpg.... Even with all the modifications I have done to my '00 Ranger 4.0L 4x4 5 spd; the best I have received is 19 mpg....
Maybe if I do the E-fan installation.... I might break 20 mpg, but I suspect the electric fan running will create MORE interference with my HF radio that I already have with the fuel pump running and the ignition...
Reducing the RF interference has been an on going project with small improvements...
Fords are NOTORIOUS for vehicle RF interference !!!!

Anyone have experience with the electric fan creating more RF interference problems ???
How much of an increase in MPG have you received after the electric fan installation ???

I got about 20 when my truck was all stock, on a road trip short shifting at less then 3k RPM.

I am getting to the point i don't even bother to check my MPG any more.

 

Proper way is to fill up completely, zero your trip meter. Drive however long you feel until you need to put gas in it again. Take the number of gallons it took to fill it back up and divide that into the total number of miles driven.

The way you described is not accurate because it can vary greatly on what is used and what the gauge shows just from the angle the truck is sitting on.
