coil over swap in my 2000

so i have a 2000 ranger and am looking for some other ideas for lifts, so i was thinking, could i put coilovers in place of my stock shock to get like one or two inches of lift to even out my truck becasue a tortion bar crank just isnt going to do it for me, if anyone knows any way i can find coliovers to replace those, if any onw could help that would be great

he is talking about coilovers

2wd XL/XLTs came with a Coil springs, not coilovers

I would look at the RCD lift, it uses coilovers, or PM Gumby, hes trying to work on a custom coilover setup, he might share some of his ideas

I thought thats what its called, coilover suspension.. because the coil is over the lower control arms and the torsion is under them, right? confusion..

the best way to describe a coilover is a coil "over" a shock, as one unit

xlts have coil springs, and then a shock is mounted inside, but its not one unit, so thats the difference

Yeah the only way to incorporate all of that would be to custom create it or what i would reccomend is get the RCD lift.

well does anyone know where i can just buy the coilovers from the rcd lift or a coil over that could fit in place of the stock shock becasue in the rcd lift that is where the coil over is mounted?????

coilovers are usually for cars man. There's much better ways to get it up.

The only way to get lift from a stock torsion bar suspension fitted with a coilover would be to extend the upper and lower arms and fab up a shock mount bar and bolt it in.

I'm going to (eventually) call Camburg and ask them if it would be possible to add a coilover to their 6.0 pro kit (dual shocks) and just get rid of the whole torsion bar system.

so you wanna run dual coilovers or just replace the dual shocks with coil overs

Just replace one of the shocks with a coiover and flip the shock upside down for better spring clearance...

I said coil overs are usually for cars. Which is completely true.

And bah to that shock. Torsion bars are much much better. Much stronger, holds many more pounds per square inch.

yeah, but definitely not as smooth as a coilover and t-bars bounce too much.

SAW is cheaper than fox. Especially if you buy off RD.
i've seen a stock upper / lower control ranger with welded shock hoops and coilovers up front

^^^Could those be direct replacements to the stock shocks?

I've never touched my front end. I'm ignorant about the entire IFS.

Take a look at your stock shock and upper mount. There is nowhere near enough clearance at the upper shock mounts for the spring on a coilover. The RCD lift uses a new mount inside the stocker that adds strength and relocates the upper mount outward for clearance. It also allows the use of a cross bolt upper mount in place of the factory post mount.

The coilovers from the RCD would not work on your stock suspension anyway because they are way too long. The RCD kit relocates everything in the front end downward from the frame and the shocks are sized accordingly.

You could get custom Bilsteins or equivalent coilovers and make new upper and lower mounts but you need to pay very close attention to the half shaft angles at full rebound travel. The stock CV joints cannot tolerate very much more angle that what the stock suspension allows. The same is true of the factory ball joints.

There is also the possibility of tire/wheel clearance issues with the larger diameter coilover assemblies on relocated mounts. The RCD kit will not work with the backspacing of the factory wheels.
