I have searched this topic and found mostly a collection of arguments for and against every kind of lift available, but pretty much everyone is trying to make the vehicle look agressive.

What I am looking to do is lift my wife's 1999 XLT Super Cab 4Door 2WD so that it no longer has the low rider look. I am not sure how much of a lift this would be but probably not more than 2" but that is just a guess.

Let me know what would be the best way to do this. My thoughts at this point are to go with something like a spindle lift if possible.

 

Spindle lift would be the best but you could do it for cheaper with a bodly lift.

 

Body Lift and like 31 or 32" tires would work (would look like a stock 4x4)

You would have say $ 200 for body lift and $ 3-400 for tires.

so $ 5-600 bucks, give or take.

 

I'm not a big fan of body lifts personally. They are great for the price, but I think a spindle lift would be better. To me, it's worth the extra money for the extra functionality. 3" is about the size of lift you want to look for though, whichever choice you make.

 

mine has that "drag racing" look lol I dont prefer it...I think my truck came with those HD leafs that make the rear high up :(

 

just remove blocks if you have them or flip the axle

 

No nothing special about your trucks leafs all gen 3's have that horrible rake to them just flip the rear hangers already or 3/4 it.

and stock 2wd height is not the lowrider look haha

Now thats low stock height cant touch that with a stick to be considered lowrider.

 

Actually his has the longbed and if I remember correctly they came with a payload package that had some more heavy duty stuff. My 97 reg cab xlt didn't have a rake that bad.

 

I think you guys are going overboard.

if all you want is to do a minimal lift just to get it a little higher, then all you need is bigger tires, believe it or not you can fit 31"s on there and bam you're done.

this might not be as cheap as just a body lift or just the spindle kit, but with both of those you're truck will look a lil tarted with tiny stock size tires.

 

In their defense, he did ask what type of lift he should get. The cheapest way is obviously a body lift and some 31's.

 

technically yes, but he's still noobish and regarless of what he typed, he is looking for the best all around option to get rid of the lowered look. Everyone here is so used to new people asking " how do I make my truck sit like Beards or Bills".

Spindles in this case I would consider quite extreme, he's not looking( or at least hasn't stated that he's looking) for clearence. so then I would say Body lift like you guys, but a body lift is just to clear bigger tires. From the amount of lift he want's he already has enough clearence for those tires. So he could spend the money on either "lift" but he'd still need new tires and at that point he'd be taller than he's looking for.

 

yea I think I also got a rear Sway bar I wander if I got an HD drivetrain

 

I think from some research I have done after all of these replies that I am likely to go with a 2.5" spindle lift and some larger tires, and possibly wheels as well. The body lift doesnt look like what I am after because from what I read it would cause my bumper to be further away from the tailgate (iirc). Also the spindle lift looks to be a better option from a mechanical standpoint because clearance would be nice. Also I am going to need to do the shocks on my wifes truck what would you guys reccomend in regards to a decent ride for on street yet still a truck like ride.

And btw. I am not looking to make my truck look like beards or bills and yes I do know what I typed and my intent is to get a mechanicaly sound small lift that makes the truck more practical as a usable truck.

But if this doesnt work for you, you can always disregard my typing and answer what ever questions you want.
