I live in Texas, I guess this question is geared towards Texans. My odometer (I just noticed today) reads 898015, obviously this is wrong, the trucks only a 98. When getting an inspection (not due until 2007), will they fail me for having this reading? The odometer works, it is counting miles properly, but not sure if this will affect my passing or failing. I really don't want to reset the odometer (call me lazy I guess), but if this is what I have to do, so be it.

 

just a quick question is the 5 at the end a white background #?

cause that means its 89801.5 meaning you have almost 90000 miles. which can be true with a 98...

what millage are you supposed to have?

 

thats what I thought, but all the numbers have a white background, and while I was driving this morning, I could swear the last number was counting miles (was not counting like the trip odometer where the last number really moves). I bought the truck with 89,000 miles on it several months ago. I just had a big electrical issue that I fixed recently, could this have jacked with the odometer? I only noticed this, this morning. I was thinking just like you, but that last number was counting miles, I'm sure of it. Which would make my odometer way off. I could be wrong (I hope I am), and this is counting 1/2 miles like you said.

 

any last # on a ranger is a 1/10th marker its not an acual mile #

 

I guess I'm losing my mind. After all the problems I had with this truck these past two weeks, I guess I'm extra paranoid about things going wrong with this truck. Thanks for bringing me back to planet earth.

 

Unless I am mistaken this Cluster started in 1995 doesn't have a 1/10 mile mark on the Odometer. I remember complaining about it when I was navigating back roads in my 01 Ranger

hmm then if this is true with his 98 ranger then he has a HUGE *** problem on his hands... i know Beard found out htere is a way to roll the OD something with a battery or moving the gears it isnt to hard just time consuming

i know for sure my 93 has the 1.10th marker but i do have the older dash...I swear seeing my buddy's 97 with it too

 

I just found a Odometer pic from Ebay from a 1998 ranger and it doesn't have an 1/10 marker either.

then he has some work cut out for him thats sure... also he could find a gauge cluster from like a exploer on ebay around his miles maybe that might save some hassle

 

WOW what happens if he tries to roll it back and it gets the sliverish looking numbers. I could be wrong buy i thought some cars speedo's have something like that to prevent odo roll back.

 

That's my cluster. I knew I wasn't losing my mind. I drove the truck for lunch, and maybe the last number is turning faster than it should. I'm not sure anymore. My real question is will this fail me in an inspection situation. I hate giving those guys 13 dollars, and they hand me a slip saying I failed (that stupid smirk on their face makes me want to smack them).
