So basically I am sick and tired of my 4 cylinder and wanted to know how troubleing it is to swap out for a V6 auto. I want the speed, but don't know what to incorporate with price.

 

Personally id go a 302 if your going to swap an engine. It will be a pain to do emissions and basically how knowlege able are you of engines?

 

what year/transmission do you have already? which v6 do you want? are you 2wd? that'll all factor into what it costs. Honestly though I think your best bet would be to buy another truck with a v6 in it already, or go all-out and do a V8.

 

Ya I wish I would have bought the truck with a V6 and I wanted it to just be 2 wheel drive because it is a pre-runner and a V8 is just to heavy

 

I swapped motors in my 93, and just to tell you, it is NOT fun unless you have a shop and ALL the right tools. and im agreeing with IRONS1N, just do a 302, you'll be glad you did.

 

Dude...just go all out on it and put a 302 in it!!!

 

I wouldn't think an aluminum block/head 302 would be much heavier than the 4.0. I say 302!

 

The aluminum block/head of a 302 weighs in almost exactly the same as the 4.0, when stripped naked.

 

Even the 2.3L Lima motor weighs in at about 420 lbs... a 302 couldn't be much heavier.

 

420 pounds is nothing compared to the mass of the 302 small block. Although it's a compact V8, compared the the Chevy 489 Camaro down the street from me, it's still a heavy beast. I bet it weighs around 500 pounds without accessories!

 

even if it was heavier, the extra power would take away any weight issues.
