The climbing mechanism on my new hi-lift is messed up, came that way out of the box. The seller has agreed to take it back and either swap for the same one or use as credit for something better. I've always had a 48" hi-lift, pretty easy to store but never had to use it for winching. Is there any reason why I should get the 5' instead of the 4'? I thought maybe if you had to use it for winching that you'd get another foot out of it before having to re-set-it-up.

Silly question, I'll probably just stick to the 4'. Just thought I'd throw this out there.

try using a 4 foot on brentons truck. by the time you get it to were its making progress, youll run out of jack.

 

lol, I was gonna stick to the 4' but I think I'll go with the 5'. I was just thinking about the space to keep it. Once the roof rack is up it won't matter though.

 

i got a 4' couple years ago becuase it fit nicely for what i needed it for. Most of the people that ived used it on, were/are stock or not very big. with a 5', youll get more variable use out of it. just make sure you use chains when winching with it. If you use a strap, it will stretch to a point, then pull. with a chain, no slack, so it basically pulls the whole time.

 

Yup, I've got the hi-lift winching setup(from hi-lift). I gotta make me a lil base plate. I've got the 1/2" steel cut, just gotta weld in some steel to conform around the base of the jack to hold it in place.

Oh yeah, I was feeling spendy so I bought the extreme 60" hi-lift. All zinc hardware, powder coated, bunch of lil nice options.

thats not a bad price at all.

just make sure you keep the thing oiled if your going to be mounting it on the truck un covered. it will dry up and start to be come a pain in the butt, unlike it is when its oiled and moving so smoothly. i need to put my cover on mine, its already to that point becuase i rarely use it.

 

It'll be in the bed all nice and cozy until I get the rack on. Then I'll prolly invest in a cover to keep it semi protected from the elements.

 

I want to get a 60" and mount it to my inner bedside....above the wheel well.
