My 3.slow has a 16.1 gallon tank and at this point I've travelled 380.1 miles on this one tank. There is still some fuel in the tank, but the fuel warning light is on and off with the fuel sloshing so I may break down and refuel. I wanted to try and see if I could get to 400 miles on this one tank, but the risk of dying in the middle of nowhere is not one I want to take for the sake of fuel economy.

I'm curious to see if a tuner will make this a realistic goal. Guess I need to find a good used one and make it happen.

 

You have a 19.5 gallon tank....

Edit: Rich (wyndorthl) has noticed an improvement in his fuel economy with the tuner, I would think you could get another 20 miles out of it easy...

According to this thread you still should have about 2.5 gals left in your tank once the light comes on

 

Trust me, it is NOT a 19.5 gallon tank. The most I have ever been able to get in that tank is 16.1 gallons before it will overflow out.

Unless there is actually something physically IN the tank, I can't fit more than 16.1 gallons in it.

 

That just means you put 16.1 gals into the tank there was still 3.4 gals in the bottom

 

It was empty. I just can't get more than 16.1 gallons in the tank. They did build some Rangers with 16 gallon tanks. I drive my tank till empty almost all the time (though I shouldn't). I have driven it till I ran out of gas on two occasions, and was only able to get....16.1 gallons of gas in the tank.

 

they say extended cabs only come w/ a 19.5 gal tank... no exceptions

 

once the light comes on.. i have pushed mine at least 20 more miles, and there was still a gallon left..
but i have a 4.0 so im not gonna comment in on milage

 

Well, if someone knows where the tank capacity information is marked, I'll climb under and check. Maybe it is 19.5 and my gas gauge is redlined at empty when there is actually more fuel in the tank. I would like to know how much I always have in the tank because I like to go as long as I can without refueling.

 

It says in the owners manual... and iv heard the needle will go way below the red line when it finally goes empty

 

Manuals are printed en-masse. Greater accuracy in the issue can be found in checking the tank itself.

 

well it doesn't matter, if all you put in the truck is 16.1 gallons then thats all the gas you have in there. Still 380/16 is just shy of 24 mpg. So pretty good.

 

I am just gonna tell ya what I know.... Unless someone changed your tank, You have a 19.5 gallon tank. My truck with it on the "E" will only take 17.5-18 gallons. There is still gas in your tank and you just THINK its empty.....

 

i've never done better than 200-240 miles to a tank. even stock.

same with me. Now that I do a lot of freeway driving I can almost hit 300..not stock anymore of course..it may be my tuner helping out a bit who knows

 

I have 4wd and a 3.0 and I can get 360+ miles from a tank on the highway.

I've also PUT 19 gallons of gas in the tank fairly often.
The gage DOES go way below that E.

I've gone 50 miles AFTER the red light has come on. ("I need gas". 40+ minutes later, wife says, "I thought you were gonna get gas, I gotta P")

I like to live on the edge.

congrats Frank.......i too got my personal best out of my truck this past weekend traveling to see my father on fathers day......i drove 2 hours to and from his house with the a/c off (still haven't got it working after the EATC, no time to work on it!) and the cruise set on 78mph (in a 70mph zone)(speedo is pretty accurate), and i got right at 17.3 mpg........funny thing is that is 2 mpg than i EVER got when the truck was 100% stock....funny huh...

 

I get considerably better gas mileage with my efi 5.0

 

I don't know what to say...the gas gauge is not that accurate and now I'm wondering the size of the gas tank. I had a 99 XLT Extended Cab and it had a 20 gallon tank as I could get 20 gallons in the tank without issue and average around 430 miles a tank with it. My 02 Edge Supercab I still feel has only a 16.1 gallon tank, but I'm going to crawl under it and see if there is any writing on the side of the tank.

 

I checked mine and couldnt find anything

 

I have driven my truck until my gas hand was on the E and I have never had any kind of warning light come on. Does my truck have a low fuel light?

 

my check gauge comes on when the fuel gets so low.......i bet yours does the same....along with everyone elses...

 

LOL I agree here I just filled my truck up ($50 with Premium) I had 235 miles on the odometer when I filled up, it sucks.
