it would be louder, as far as passing the emissions testing, no, it wouldn't pass.
catalytic converters are on the truck for a reason.

Depending on what year ranger you have you CAN remove cats. Alsong as they are all after the O2 sensors you can remove all you like because your truck will just be scanned according to OBD2 which cannot detect any cats after the O2 Sensors. So 96 or newer you can remove one or more possibly. Anything 95 and older I wouldnt mess with it.

i had to take off one of my cats after it got clogged. I had just a pipe running through it while i found a cat to fit. I have a flowmaster muffler and i would say its not worth the hassle. In my opinion, the sound just got uglier. just me.

My truck has 5 cats, 3 pre cats and the two main cats if you wanna count them seperately. it was one of the precats that got cut out.

A muffler shop wont tell you removing cats is legal....because its not! My 2004 has 3 cats, 2 precats and one after the sensors. I punched out the 3rd one...

See if an exhaust shop will replace all your cats and put in 2 high-flow's coming off each bank.

that would be a waste of money, all new cats are high flow from the factory.

if you want something loud, go with a flowmaster 40series si/do.
or just get a sawzaw and cut your muffer off, w/e floats your boat.

speaking of cats, i need to find a new one because mine has a small hole in the top....

i might have to goto a junkyard and cut one off a mustang or something, just for ****s and giggles.

I would say remove it with a Y pipe if you have no O2 sensors after it if you want more sound.

I second this, and just put dumps on the muffler outlets, you'll get your 'rumble'. My 3.0L with a si/do flow 40 dumped was louder than my friend's '95 F150 5.0L with no muffler (it pissed him off too ).. something to think about, having the flowmaster will most likely get you that 'rumble' you want.

Ok, you tell me which is going to be better for sound and flow.

3 or 4 OEM cats and a muffler

2 highflow's and a muffler

hmm?
