alright I'm wanting to save my money and do my own oil change, I wanna stick to the factory stuff, I just need to know in general how many bottles to buy of the ford oil?

 

I'm not sure about the 3.0, however all the information you should need will be listed in your owners manual.

 

5 quarts and you will be safe

get ford motorcraft oil and oil filter from autozone, much cheaper than the dealer

 

I know the girlfriends taurus (has 3.0 vulcan too) takes 4.5 quarts with filter, so 5 need to be purchased as stated above....

 

I'll get 6 just to have some extra for next time... thanks guys!

 

np. i know this info because i have to do an oil change every like month and a half. its exactly 4.5 quarts with the filter changed.

i would suggest switchin over to royal purple, it is some good sh*t man

 

Remember the correct oil capacity with filter is 4.5 quarts. The dipstick does not have a "FULL" and "ADD", it has a "MAX" and a "MIN". 4.5 quarts puts the level right between the "MAX" and "MIN" where it should be......Don't overfill it.

You seem to have a problem with it, you have told him 5 and 4.5!!

As far as oil filters, stay with the Motorcraft, and you won't have to worry about construction.

u really hate royal purple that bad? i like it in my truck with the K&N racing filter on there... wats so bad about it?

 

plain and simple... over at Ford in the engine Dyno dept... my dads room did an oil test.. tested all the leading oils...

lets just say i would rather have motorcraft oil...

 

hey man, thanks a lot for the info. ill run motorcraft from now on and its cheaper. do you happen to know anything about quaker state high rpm synthetic oil?

 

personally if i was to run synthetic which i dont i would buy mobil 1.... for me regular old dyno oil is perfectly fine for me... worked in all my vehicles and never has given me a problem... my f-150 had over 160k on it and ran great my truck now has 103k and its working great no need for sythetic

i am thinking the same thing. synthetics are not needed. its a ranger. you are not reaching all that high of rpms. and synthetics are just overkill.

^^^ Define High RPM, I am constantly winding mine out past 5000....

 

I've run several different types of synthetic, synthetic blend, and regular oil and I have to say, after 4k miles since my last oil change, the Mobil1 is still giving me phenominal gas mileage. Most other oils (synthetic or not) start breaking down after 2-3k miles. I also run the Mobil1 Filter.

OH AND BTW, DON'T FORGET TO MAKE SURE YOU DON'T GET ANY OIL ON YOUR STARTER AND MAKE SURE YOU WIPE IT OFF VERY WELL AFTER YOUR OIL CHANGE, INCASE SOME OIL DID GET ON IT.
