steel wheels

Hey all,
Sometime in the fairly near future i will be needing some new tires. i am thinking about getting some 16" wheels too(like soft 8s i think). but my question is, do steel wheels make the truck ride noticeably rougher? obviously they weigh more than aluminum, and therefor have more unsprung weight. but would i be able to notice any difference over aluminum?

I've switched to/from steel and aluminum and havent noticed a real difference.

But - tires for 15" wheels are usually a bit cheaper than those for a 16"... & I prefer my 15's over the 16"s Ive had in the past.

Personal opinion.

yeah the only reason im going 16 is i like the size choices going to p-metric sizes, as i am looking for a rather specific size.

my dad is running the tires im thinking about getting on his truck with 16s and they ride great.. so im hoping it will be the same on my truck.

You can have the Soft 8s in 16s and also the Daytonas in 16s.

I notice no difference in ride or antything like that between my alloys or my steelies. But I notice the tire size difference...alloys & 31x10.50 a/ts and steel & 32x11.50 m/ts

ok another question. the only wheels i can find in the size im lokoing for (16x8) are Pro comp rockcrawlers and Cragars. The cragars have 5" backspacing and the pro comps have like 4-4.5" backspacing.

i i dont want my tires to be all tucked inside the wheelwells but i dont want them hanging way out, if you understand what i mean. can anyone show me what a 16x8(i assume 15x8 or 17x8 witht the same BS would look the same?) with 4-4.5" BS would look like?

Thanks!

4" backspace, 15x8 US wheel daytona:

If your wheel is a 16x8, and has a backspace of 5"....it'll be sucked in 1" compaired to my wheels on my truck. The smaller the backspace, the farther out itll stick. The higher the number, the closer itll tuck.

ok i will give you advise being every guy that answered your question has a 4.0L its really not gonna help you...

I also have a 4cyl....

went from 16" steelies with 265x75x16 tires (32x10.8x16

to alum 15" with 32x11.5x15.. now my 32 BFG run small so there very close to my old 265...

i weighed the tires steelies weighed 86ish lb
alum where like 64ish lb

thats around 20lb of unsprung weight in each corner. not only do i know i have alum know by how the truck takes off from a light also when on the freeway. i also picked up about 1-2mpg from this. went from 17-19mpg avg to 19-22mpg avg

thats actual info from a 4cyl truck...
