I personally think its overpriced and not necessary for our trucks. I personally use Mobil1 5w-30 Full Synthetic and a Motorcraft filter. The combo works great for me.

Mobil 1 is like 28 bucks a 6pack at sams club. How much is Royal Purple. Last I remember it was REAL pricey compaired to mobil 1. Both are full synthetic. Its your choice. I run Mobil 1 and motorcraft filters, unless I can get a dael for mobil 1 filters with the purchace of the mobil 1 oil.

I think its a great idea to switch to a synthetic oil, if for no other reason to be able to go longer between changes. However, I'd suggest skipping the Royal Purple. UOA's (used oil analysis) have shown that Royal Purple has a tendency to quickly shear to a lower weight (ex. 5w-30 to a 5w-20), which is not a situation you would want to be in. I would suggest that you consider Mobil 1, Pennzoil Platinum, or Amsoil and stick with the Motorcraft FL820s oil filter. The Motorcraft oil filter has the Ford preferred location of the bypass valve (threaded base of the filter), most others (Wix, Mobil 1, Pure One, etc.) do not.

I personally use Mobil 1 5w-30 (available at Walmart in a 5QT jug for $21), and a Motorcraft filter (also at Walmart for about $3.50). I run the oil, and filter, for 5000 miles.

I don't know how many miles you have on your truck (my 01 has 81,000), or how well you kept up on oil changes, but I would also suggest that you consider an Auto Rx treatment before the switch. If you do that, you will remove any sludge or varnish that may have occurred, and start over with a squeaky-clean engine.

i switched to moblil 1 15,000 mile oil. i love it. i went for the 15,000 mile oil bc i dont have to change the oil as much as the 3,000 mile regular oil. so that was a plus for me. the price for the synthetic was kinda high but worth not havin to change the oil all the time.

Good choice! Do what you will, but I think if you run that oil any less than 5000 miles you're wasting your money.

HOW MUCH FOR ROYAL PURPLE?????? I paid like 12 bucks for a quart of atf that mobil 1 sells for like 8! I needed it and there was no mobil 1 ATF in the hole town so it was royal purple from NAPA.
