Has anyone ever cut the stock lower shock mounts off and moved them higher on the housing so they wouldnt be a issue with gettin hung up on stuff?

There has been a few times I have been hung up by them or thought I was gonna rip them off completely.Looks like raising them 2.5-3" would get rid of that problem.

Do you think shorting the shock travel by that much would be an issue? I have 2.5" Rancho AAl in the rear and have ProComp9000 shocks for a SuperDuty for the extra travel.

 

i would look for a new shock that is shorter if you are going to do that... or make a new upper shock mount for both shocks...

 

Well with my AAL's I had to get SuperDuty shocks which give a couple more inches of travel according to ProComp,so if I move these mount up a couple inches I guess I could get away with stock shocks again.

I think I am gonna cut my brackets off this week when I start workin on my front locker install and move them up and maybe ditch the swaybar too.

 

Not to jack the thread..but what front locker did you go with?

Found one. I reclocked them on the FX4 L2 axle (31-spline) I put on. It allowed me to add about 3 to 4 inches more lift without dumping my Rancho RSX that were stock length. I'm still running those shocks.

They are now parallel to the ground. It's a much "cleaner" look and less likely to grab something when you're dragging your axle along the bottom of a water hole -- something I do regularly in Wharton, lol.

 

Dam John that is exactly what I was thinkin bout! I like that alot,I knew someone else had to have thought of it before me.

 

Ha ha. I did that in 2005 and had some better pics but I moved them to a backup DVD and didn't want to get it out.

What I did was cut them off with a 3" air cutting wheel, then had them mig welded back on. The guy who welded them is an ex-nuclear weldor and he burned them in so fast I'm still in awe -- and they haven't broken. I could weld them now, but they wouldn't look like his welds, lol. Ford didn't weld them on as good as he did.
