Auto-off headlight
Auto-off headlight
Ok so for my 04 when I installed my Mustang domelight I had to tap into the green/orange wire behind the headlight switch, i forget what its called. But you know how that makes it so the domelight won't stay on for more than 10 minutes once the key is removed? If I wired up a relay so that power to the headlights was disconnected after the key had been removed for more than 10 minutes sort of like the domelight?
You talking about the OR/LG wire on the dimmer switch? (I don't recall there being a GR/OR colored wire on the headlight switch or dimmer switch.)
If that's what you're talking about then the OR/LG wire goes to the battery saver relay.
Auto headlamps will do what you want or do you really only want the to "auto off"?

If the interior and head light wiring is the same as a 01 then it should work. Tap the power feed to the instrument panel dimming module (LG/OG) wire and run it to the relays coil term 85. Run a wire from term 86 to ground. Then you'll need to cut the (RD/BK) wire coming from the multifunction switch that goes to the low beams via the BJB in the engine compartment. Put the end coming from the multifunction switch to term 30 and the other end to term 87 of a SPST relay.
Note: wiring color my not be the same on your 04. Back probe the RD/BK wire at the multifunction switch to make sure its only hot when you turn on the headlights.
A further note of warning: If the relay ever goes bad you'll lose your low beam head lights. I'd recommend placing the relay somewhere easy to get to. I'd also recommend putting in a 1 amp inline fuse between the relay control term 85 and the LG/OG wire.

I don't want to sound like an a$$, but why? I'm just curious, I assume you want to have for night time so you can see walking away. But wouldn't that just put more strain on the battery after the key is off?
Im guessing so that if he accidtley was to leave them on it wouldn't kill his battery..
But if he turns the headlight switch to off, doesn't that override the mod he's talking about?
Yeh it would but i think this mod is just for a saftey precaution..
Yeah I could see how this is would be a good mod because I drive with my HLs on all the time and sometimes im not paying attention to the chime and leave the HLs on during the day lucky for me its not for long periods of time
