dimming mirror and auto headlight trouble ,please help

hi i followed the how to word for word and instaled the ohc and mirror and relays for auto headlights and everything works great except the headlights dont turn light on there own i stil have to turn the switch
but after i turn the switch and there on i can turn it off and they stay on at night and the turn of on there own when i shut the truck off

the only thing i can think of os that the wires at the headlight switch were not the colors they said
i only had a
(brown with white stripe ) and i used that as brown
and a (off white with black stripe) and i used that fro the tan and white
could these be reversed and thats why the lights dont go on automaticly at night

 

and my truck is a 2000 ford ranger 3.0 4x4 if that healps any
also does anyone have the headlight switch wire diagram and colors for this truck

 

I do I do. posted in your other thread. now i gotta locate my book! My 01 electrical manual is exactly the same as a '00(except the 4.0 engine harness).



EDIT: PIC! This is the Purple & Black pigtail that plugs into the headlamp switch...

 

the wires i have are off white with black stripe and a
brown wire with white stripe not sure about other colors but could i just go off of the diagram ?
the wire in the (how to says) i need the brown this is the lead for parking lamps
and the tan and white (the power for the parking lamps
