4.0ohc or 4.0 sohc
wats the difference? i have a 4.0 in my ranger im just not sure if its an ohc or sohc...and for some reason im not allowed to post attachments so i cant show wat my motor looks like...pics wud help i guess
I think you mean OHV or SOHC. SOHC means Single Over head cam, Meaning that is has a Camshaft over each head. which in this case is more powerful, but it sacrifices some low end grunt, and OHV is Overhead Valve, which is a more traditional pushrod motor with a single camshaft in the center of the block. If you ranger is 2001 or newer and it has the original 4.0 it is SOHC, if it is 2000 or older it is a OHV.

Well, you will probably see 4.0L OHC and 4.0L SOHC in automotive references- but they are talking about the same motor.
But like said above^ there were two different 4.0L motors- OHV and the SOHC (or OHC) motor.
