freeze out plugs
freeze out plugs
it looks like i got a freeze out plug leaking on my block, is that something i can just change with a new one? do i need a special tool or just rip the old one out and tap in a new one?
Freeze plugs are press fit into a smooth boore. If the bore is iron (engine block) then you shouldn't have a problem. If it's pressed into an aluminum bore then you just might.
I'm sure there are freezplug repair kits out there. I'd check with a local NAPA.

thanks man, it looks like iron, its a 94 4.0 engine and its a freeze out plug in the block. luckily i got a body lift and i can get to it no problem thru the fender well.
I'd not go with pep-boys. I'd go to a more hard core engine repair type of shop. Just depends on where you are I guess. In my town the NAPA and car quest both have machine shops and can give me the best parts along with solid advice on how to do it.

i have a napa by me but in my area napa has 17 year old kids working there that never even heard of a modulator valve for my tranny, it horrible. i seen some online so i am gonna go to a few places this weekend, its not leaking bad but i dont wanna wait till it rust completely thru.
If it's rust causing the core plug to leak , you may want to consider replacing all of them at the same time. Since you have to drain the coolant anyway , and flush the system while you're at it , why take the chance that another one might start leaking in a month or two and have to repeat the process ?

it won't be helpful to flush the coolant system because unless you have a machine you will only get out around 2/3 of your coolant. You might want to check out a ford dealer near you instead of NAPA because it's best to get what was originally put in.
yea thats what i was worried about, im gonna call the dealer this morning and see what they got, i get my anti freeze for free at work so i am just gonna change it like three times in a weeks time to get all fresh in there lol.
