removing the tail gate?

searched but couldnt find the answer.. I was thinking about removing my tailgate for a bit just to see how it looks since a couple people i know did it to there trucks and it looked pretty cool haha. my question is how do you remove it? I tried to loosen the star type bolts but all i had was a star screw driver which couldnt even break the bolts free. is there a special star tool you have to buy or somthing? do they make star allen wrenches you could buy or somthing? Whats an easy way to get it off, thanks guys.

The cables are held on my clips. Just take off the cables and then pull the passager side out then the driver's side. That's it.

There is a spring clip over the hole on the side where it hooks to the truck. Just lift it up and pull the cable off.

Yep, no tailgate = bad bed alignment. Nothing big, it can be corrected by adjusting the latches. THe previous owner did it on my truck and ever since I got it the tail gate has been a slammer.
