Drum brakes
Messing around this weekend I found that my rear brakes are shot. So I'm gonna get new shoes, springs, and all that good stuff. Then have a friend come show me what the hell I'm doing. Let me get a list of parts up and you guys can tell me if I have everything.
I just replaced all the brake stuff up front and don't want the unnecessary wear that would be caused because the rear brakes are gone. I know it's got to be putting a ton of stress on the front rotors and pads.
Also I've been looking for a fx4 axle and don't want to spend a ton of money on new brakes for this axle if I find a new axle.
What size brakes do I have, the 9"x1 3/4" or 10"x2 1/2"? How do you tell, is that drum diameter?
Also, can all these new brake components be swapped over to a fx4 axle?
Thanks.

you can measure the drum with a tape measure if theyre too rusty to read cuz if theyre kinda new you can read the # on the drum...but if you cant read it you can just measure it...n as for the 9"x1 3/4 thing...the 9" is the drum diameter and the 1 3/4 is the drum depth...im not sure what size drums u have on the rear but again you can measure em to find out...im thinkin its the 9" drum but im not 100% sure...
Your not putting to much stress on the front brakes, they do the vast majority of the braking as is. If you plan to swap axles I would focus the attention on that. Get the new axle, put the new brake parts on it and swap away.
Check out your brake lines and cylinders before you start. My cylinders were shot, so I had to run out and get new ones, and then run out again to get new brake lines cause i couldn't get the old ones off (rusted away at the cylinder).
I could have had them done in half the time, but cause I was buming a ride to go get the parts I needed, it turned into a really long day.

The only reason I found out is I pulled up on a big steep rock and the e-brake wouldn't hold the truck up. So I pulled the drums off and there is nothing left on the shoes, nothing!! I would like to have a working e-brake again. lol
your axle has 10" brakes.
all parts will interchange to the FX4 31 spline axle

So if I wait it out I should be alright??

Yeah, it's an auto.
I don't like just throwing it in park when on steep hills, I like to use the e-brake.
You know when you park on a steep hill and the tranny clunks going from park to whatever. I've always thought that was hard on the tranny and use the e-brake.
