So obviously 37s do not fit in the fender very well. So should The truck be lifted more or should I cut the fenders open like 2002FX4?




I really do not want to bend the bedsides all up or cut the crap out of the tires like i did not too long ago.

Opinions?

 

I guess lift it more... Idk. I'm not fond of the idea of "just" cutting the fenders. Maybe if you could reform them or put different flares on after cutting, but I'm not a big fan of just cutting them like above.. No offense to him, his truck is still badass, but it loses "classiness" with the cut fenders..IMO

 

Well If I do it I want to weld in a new fender lip, then smooth it all out and repaint.

This was my initial reasoning for swapping all these fenders and bed. To cut them out. 3 out of the 4 current flares are trashed. I am already not going to run inner front fenders because of the coilovers.

the bed is going to get cut down to just side skins anyway.

 

i wouldnt cut them if i were you, it would take away that clean look you have going on.

I just didnt think about mentioning it because its not going to happen for a while. But cutting them could happen really soon.

that is what i think too. its hard to cut a body that barely has any imperfections.

 

Your truck... Lift it more. Other peoples truck cut the fenders. You truck is clean as hell. Keep it that way.

If you swapped the fenders already I say just cut, you still have the originals I take it to put back on if its not the look your going for.

to the ones that said about it being a clean truck, it might be now but its not going to be anymore. it just appears clean in the pictures.


i dont have the original fenders. I only have 1 set, the ones on the truck.

Run glass. I've got a friend that beats the **** out of his tacoma out here. He's not a prerunner, but more an all-arround off-road vehicle. The glass holds up quite well. It's actually something I've been thinking of doing should I pull the sway bar.

As for the bedsides, I say cut em, re-lip the inner portion and maybe throw some flares back on to keep the truck looking clean.

Then again, if it's going to be a trail truck now why ya worried about glass and paint?!

Oh, and do you REALLY want to lift it and screw with the CoG more, even with the fullsize axels?

 

I vote for more lift. The truck looks awesome with the factory fender wells and cutting them up would ruin it.

His own words. If Beard was going to to keep it clean "Street Queen", then I'd say lift it more. But in this case it sounds as if he's wanting function over form; it has a purpose now, to be off-road. Why screw with the center of gravity more just to keep it looking nice if "it might be [clean] now but its not going to be anymore"?!

 

If its for something more than show... keep the CG low.

well when i do stuff I want it to look good, not crap quick decisions. I still think I could cut the fenders and make it look good. I dont want to lift it at all. I think Kevin's and Andrew's trucks both look fine with cut fenders.

I dont drive it on the street any more. What most of you dont understand is more damage will come to the truck if I dont take care of the fender problem. I just cant see lifting it so I should not have made that an option. I will have to think about this some more. Still very undecided.

 

cut them and have someone with some body skill roll the fenders so it gives it the stock look.

 

It sounds like your against lifting so don't lift it. It is your truck after all. Do what you thinkis right!!

I'm definitely not trying to convey to half-*** it. Make it a clean surgery. I'm all for that. I think that front glass will give you room to not only avoid catching the tire on the fender, but also room to tuck it under flex/travel. The bedsides I'm still for cutting, re-lipping if possible and maybe getting some bushwhacker flares or something - nothing sticking out too far though.
