30,000 comming up, what should I do?

In my old cars, every 30,000 I'd change out the spark plugs, wires, distributors and rotors. That was on easy to service 4 bangers though. I've read a bit on here about getting to the spark plugs on the passenger side being a pain in the butt and I'm wondering if its worth it to do all this. I've noticed the truck seems to be running alittle sluggish, and I'm thinking maybe running thicker wires and NGK spark plugs might help a bit...?

Any clues as to what I should do and/or change out for 30,000 miles? I'd rather do it myself and save some hundreds of dollars by not going to a dealer.

Thanks all

lol, nice roach.

You've actually got a bit more on me... i change my oil every 4,000 miles, so I'm commin up on 28,000 was gonna do it then.

So, tranny flush and radiator flush are pretty much the popular consensus here. Is that something that's easy to do yourself, and how do you dipose of the fluids? Other thing on my mind is how long should I be able to go on the spark plugs and wires to keep the engine running its best?

Yes, the spark plugs on the passenger side, are a royal beotch. I personally had to take my tire off just to get to them. The driver side plugs aren't a picnic either. Just warning ya, lol.

Check the scheduled matinence guide. There should be one online too to send you reminders to your e-mail. I don't have the link, but if someone finds it, post it.

I almost took my truck into ford to get their 30K maintenance. They said that it was not under warranty. They were going to charge me for a tranny flush...did I mention that my truck is a MANUAL! They were going to change my oil...I have full synthetic in it and they only had their "bulk oil". The truck had also already kicked a frost plug so the coolant had already been changed with the new blockheater THEY put in. Then I just left laughing. I picked up fluid for the trans and diffs, and called it good lol

Ford says 100k on the factory Motorcraft platinum plugs. That's probably a bit optimistic but they'll go 60~70K easy. The factory wires are very good and should outlast the plugs.

Anyone know if I can get the coilpack ends for plug wires? I have made plug wires for other vehicles, but haven't been able to find the right ends to go to the coilpacks on my ranger.

Another good idea for a 30k service is an induction service. clean throttle body, use injector cleaner(aerosol can) and a top engine cleaner (not fuel tank type) clean and adjust parking brake. air filter lubricate latches and hinges. a/c evaporator clean you know maintaince things
