Yup... alternator is done for... what kind of options do I have? High output? Autozone? OEM?

I had the alternator replaced on this truck about six years ago and have no clue what was installed then so pretty much anything should be a step up, but I've never had to look into alternators so I'm not sure whats good or where to buy from. So any suggestions would be great!

 

any of the auto parts places will have what you need with some kind of warranty.

 

AutoZone....Duralast= Re man with Lifetime Warranty or Duralast Gold=New with Lifetime warranty. Don't get valucraft, we are phasing it out and in a year will no longer honor the warranty.

 

When you go to the auto parts store tell them you want an alternator for an Explorer, it's higher output but you shouldn't have to upgrade your wiring.

I'm not seeing it... both the Ranger and Explorer are 130 amp units.

 

On a ranger, 130 is only stock on the tremors I think.

 

Really? Looking at Autozone, Napa, and RockAuto they all list 130amp for the '99 Autos and 95amp for the '99 Manual...

 

It will still work but I've never heard of anything more than 95 as stock on anything but a Tremor. I had a 200 amp one I got on ebay in my old truck. That thing could power my house.

Last I remember, the 95 amp was on a manual, 130 was on an auto. But it has been a while.

 

im pretty sure that mine is a 95w in an 02 auto. mine went out and i went with autozone. lifetime warrenty. no more paying for alternators, just hose it off and go swap it out

 

You can send it to me and I can rebuild it for ya with quality parts for cheaper than a new one.

 

95 should be stock ranger in either trans.

130 on the explorer

I have heard a crown vic police interceptor alternator fits. Im just not sure if the 5.0 or 4.6 cars. Its a 150.

 

5.0, the 4.6 mounts differently.

 

no offense, but id shy away from any alternator from autozone, lifetime warranty or not. i got one from there for my last truck, damn thing crapped out on me 3 times, took out my battery once. yeah it was great they replaced it every time, but they didnt pay for my $100 battery that was destroyed or the 120 mile towing charge. i put up the cash for a motorcraft one and never looked back.

 

95 is not stock on all rangers, mine came with the 130 amp one, im auto with power everything. i ran a 95w one on this motor and it couldnt hold the load i was putting on it. i spent 140 for a 130w one if i remember.

 

Any opinions on Autolite? Kragen's got a pretty good price on a 130amp Autolite.

 

I was just about to start a thread like this..

between my winch, the e-fan, all my lights.. about to be a second winch and more lights.. I need something that can keep up if i need to run a few things at a time.

anyone else? what are good HO alternators? do i need to upgrade any wires?

my buddy had a powermaster HO alternator that could light a small town, but i think it was about $200-$300. ive been considering this upgrade as well.

FYI, there is a mistake on the second line of that listing. No rangers came with a 4.2...
