Painting Faded Grill
Painting Faded Grill
Well, paid off the Ranger a while back, and thought that, as my first mod, I would paint the grill because it was a little faded. I had no idea as to just how faded it was until I took that sucker off!
Here it is, still on the truck:

and here's a close-up after I removed the Ford emblem. Really shows how faded it is:

so I go it cleaned up, and picked up some paint. Hope to get to it this weekend.

What paint did you get? I painted mine about a week ago. I used Krylon Fusion Satin Black. Put on a few coats let it set for an hour and put it back on. Its holding up great and its already been through a few car washes.

I'm planning on starting tomorrow, weather permitting. I've been on vacation all week, and it's rained like crazy every day. If it rains, I may just pull the Merc into the driveway, and paint it in the garage, wife permitting.
you'll love it when you get done. just make sure you spray it from every angle. that honeycomb is a pita. mine looked so much better after i did it. looked so good i continued to remove all the gray from my exterior with crylon fusion, bedrails, rear bumper cover. etc
OK, got it painted today. Used both cans of the Krylon. I think it turned out pretty good (especially for my first attempt at using spray paint). I got a little heavy handed a couple of places, but overall it turned out really good.
Here it is after a couple of coats:

And here it is after I finished.

I'll let it dry for a bit, get my lights wired, then get it back on and post some more photos.

I put mine on about an hour after I painted it and mine still looks like I just painted it.
There were a couple of times that it seemed like I was going to break it trying to pop it out of the surround, but I just slowed down, and worked it free. Glad I did, cause I suck at taping for paint.
I want to see your ford emblem painted black!

Got the lights wired up and aimed last night, then got the grill back on. Couldn't tell much in the dark, so I had to wait until this morning to take a good look at it. Looks pretty good so far, but I'll have to wait until the sun burns the fog off to get a really good look at it.
Here's a couple of crappy pics I took with my phone when I got to work this morning:
