Yup, so I did it today.
It's legal in Alberta to have a straight pipe. So I hacked off my POS Flowmaster muffler that I've been *****ing about since I bought and modified my over axle pipe to make it dump out infront of the rear wheel.
Still got all the cats on it, but my god does the 4.0 ever sound good with no muffler!

yeah it does. i ran that for a while, but i got a bit tired of the noise in the cab, so i put a magnaflow muffler on mine. with it dumped under the cab. much quieter. but yeah the 4.0 sounds pretty sweet without a muffler. especially at idle and low rpm's
even the higher rpm's sound pretty good.
put a sound clip up!

i first heard a mufflerless 4.0 on Howells' truck and was like wtf that's how I want my truck to sound and when I asked him what exhaust he was running he said none lol.
I just got my parts to rig up my side pipe, so I'm going to go do that. I can't get a sound clip because my camera sucks and doesnt record sound with video.

imo no muffler is annoying I've heard the 4.0L w/o it and it sounds freaking obnoxious loud... if you had a big block V8 then it would be sweet...
I wanna know what this guy is running he has the 4.0L, sounds great for a v6!

Pics for you ******. The whole deal cost me $27.
So here's the exhaust itself. I reused the over axle pipe for my side exit. I don't have a welder so for now I used screws and clamps. It's pretty solid.

With the tip on it.

So, overall, I'm impressed with it. IMO, it sounds great, so I'm happy.
oh, I bought some rockerguard today too, so I'm going to get onto that soon, as you can see it needs it.

if i took all the cats off it would be horribly loud, but considering all the precats and the main cat are on there, it's still nicely muffled and have a really deep throaty growl. I'd say its no louder than any of the rice rockets around here.
the only bad thing about that side exit is all that exhaust blows back on the rear tire. the '97 F-150's were that way stock, ruined alot of rims and they went back to behind-tire exit. i put a quiet setup on mine. stock exit, but did gut the cat through the middle with a pipe. i have no rear O2 sensor to worry about.
