so guess what i just bought

well after staring at trepauls truck forever i finally decided to order my belltech shackles haha should be in tomorrow or friday few questions,
where to jack the rear up and where to put jackstands? i'm assuming i'm not getting a impact back there so i'll have to pull out the breaker bar and start lifting weights

any other advice?

get a couple C-Clamps.. make sure you have some PB available to spray on and get rid of some of the rust build up on the nuts. Should be pretty easy, I'm very positive that even though I have never ever messed with shackles or leaf's, even I could get it done in 30 minutes per side pretty quick..

Reminds me, how much did the beltech 6400['s run? Im thinking of dumping the stock block back there and doing either an add-a-leaf, or sgetting a leafpack to replace it all.. get me to a stock height without needing a block

oh wait, DUH I was thinking you were doing an AAL too!

All you need then is to unbolt the old shackles, and put the new ones on then! Quick and simple!!

fyi the bolts in the bed are t55 torx, sure you could do it without taking the bed off, but then you have to take your wheels off and get a socketwrench and your head in that little space

No need to pull the bed....thats too much work IMO if you're just alone doing it.

-Just use a 1/2" drive breaker bar
-you'll see my redneck stand setup
-floor jack under the pumpkin
-have the axle at full droop and then some while on the stands
-unbolt your shocks at the axle
-unbolt the highest bolt on both sides(the bolt that holds the shackle to the spring hanger
-i like to use my 1/2" drive 18" long craftsman ratcheting breaker bar because you cannot get an impact in there
-drop the axle down and let the springs pivot towards the ground(they'll do this on their own)
-then impact off the leaf spring to shackle bolt.
-install new shackles but leave shackle to leaf bolt just threaded on, not tightened.
-jack up axle
-bolt top of shackle to spring hanger, again, leave just threaded, not tightened.
-put truck on ground
-jump in bed and jump up and down a couple times
-torque bolts to proper spec aka tight as *****.

So you can actually drop the axle even farther if you need to.

so do i want to unbolt from the hanger after i drop the axle or before?

right now i've got the bed off and i dropped the axle and the shocks were fine at full drop so i'm not goin to unbolt those yet til i get the new ones, and i loosened all the bolts for the shackles, just waiting for the damn things to come in!

LIFT the axle to unbolt them, it will take the tension off the leafs did you unbolt the leaf from the shackle or unbolt the shackle from the hanger?
