I hop in my truck to go down the street, throw it in gear start backing out of my driveway and out of the corner of my eye I see the airbag light in the cluster blinking. I look it up in the book and all it tells me is to have it serviced immediately. Is there anything I can do to make this stop besides take it in to the dealership?

Ok, noob question here... How do I check to see what code its throwing?

 

Count the blinks. Normally its just a burnt out bulb though

 

you know how it flashes? watch the flashes, it flashes in a certain pattern. then it stays on steady....tell us the pattern.

 

Ok so we're lookin at 4 blinks, pause, 7 blinks, long pause, then it starts over with the 4,7 thing.

 

Ahh that one =- look under your passenger and driver seat.. theres a little plug under there - go ahead and unplug it, and push it back together really forceful... probably kicked it loose a slight bit =)

 

4-7 code is too much resistence on the drive seat plug. take come contact cleaner to the prongs on the connections, there dab on some dialectic grease, then clip them back together. unplug battery, plug back in, and see if that solves your problem. I too have 4-7 and have yet to get rid of it.

 

Actually, code 4-6 is driver side, code 4-7 is passenger side.

 

OH CRAP! lol. I better clean that contact then huh. lol.

 

my light does that same thing, so at my lunch i'll look and try to see the order it flashes and then let ya guys know so maybe yall can help me cause that thing really annoys the hell out of me sometimes lol

 

I just did what Shane and Bob and Mike said and it went away. Very simple fix.

 

I've often wondered, if you get into an accident while you've got this code, will your airbags still deploy?

Funny thing -embarrassing really, my parking brake cable failed and the truck (manual trans) rolled into my garage one morning while warming up before work. My driveway is sloped for about 40', so the truck picked up some decent speed... no airbags deployed. I wonder if it wasn't enough speed, or because of the airbag code I had at the time.

 

ok mine id the blink 4 then 6 or 7 times. but keeped doing it then just stayed on. any idea?

 

Unplug the gray plug under the passenger seat then if you're feeling like it, clean off the prongs on the plug with rubbing alcohol and a q-tip. Then plug it back in. That should fix it. Hold up, maybe if it's doing 4-6-7 it's both plugs? Try unplugging and cleaning both plugs then let us know if that fixes it.

 

It's doing a 2-5 blink code

 

min just started doing the 4-6 coade today and i did what you guys said, cleaned the connection really well, and VIOLA!!! Now no more annoying light!! Glad i saw this thread thanks guys!!

 

Ok so my 05 rangers airbag light is blinking 2 then 7, 2 /7, 2/7 then it stays on anyone have any idea what code this is for

 

My Ford Ranger Splash 1995 3.0L V6 for the first time beging to flash the air bag light and is a very large code flashes this pattern: 1-2-1-2-1-2-1-2-1-2 and steady on ,i think means code 12 and i found a 10amp fuse blown i replace it but still blinking at start and keep steady while i drive.

Anyone with this problem?

Help I pulledapart the conn's and cleaned. No differance???

 

I believe 2-7 is for the Passenger Airbag Disable switch circuit and it usually means that the indicator bulb is burned out.

Thanks for the leads. Originally, I had no light (bad bulb) but gave long beeps. Replaced the bulb, which solved the beeping, but the light blinked the 4-6. Unplugged the connection under driver seat, reconnected and it is all clear now.
