The chevy 2" drop shackles can give you up to 1.5" of lift on the rear of your truck.

So....and this is a little off topic, but pertinent, After doing the hanger flip for 2" of drop, the Chevy shackle will give you 1.5" of drop, right?

^yes i think so, but if you shackle flip and run a longer shackle in a offroad truck it adds alot free travel to the rear. alot of prerunners do it

Yep - it moves your bump stops an extra 1.5"+ higher - which gives lots more travel... It DOES change the way the vehicle handles - as soon as I installed mine a few days ago I could feel the difference just pulling out of the driveway - pushes your frame and all the internals back there up a bit and changes the COG ratio - not by much, but enough to notice a difference.

It doesn't have to be Belltech shackles.....just 2" chevy drop shackles will work just fine on a ranger. There's 3" chevy drop shackles out there too...those'll get you more lift out back on a ranger. But I do suggest the Belltech 6400's because of the adjustability you have with them....you can set it up for 3/4" lift or 1.5" lift because you can easily use the bottom 2 sets of holes to bolt your leaf up.

You may be asking "if this is to lower a chevy, why would it lower my ranger?". Rangers rear shackles bolt to the hanger, then goes down and bolts to the leaf spring. Chevys shackles bolt to the hanger, then goes up and bolts to the leaf spring. Ranger go down, Chevy go up....since chevy go up, if a shackle is made for lowering(which moves the leaf up on a chevy), it'll lower a chevy and in turn, it'll lift a ranger because of how the shackles are mounted to the frame.

Wowmike,

in relation to what you mentioned about the difference after putting the shackles on, is that similar to how the Superlift suspension system affects the ranger?

Everybody say's go with the shackles. I asked this question a couple days before. A block is a block, I don't know the price but there is this thing with axle wrap with blocks, I don't know what that is but it sounds bad. AAL, no matter what an AAL is gonna make the truck stiffer in the back and as light as the rangers are the ride aint gonna be pleasant. Then you come down to shackles, the shackles are just extending the distance between your leaf springs and frame. Safe and easy to put on. Also retains ride quality but may make the back slightly stiffer.

No, you only want one shackle on the back of the leaf springs. But try one on each end and let us know how it goes

If you think that video I posted was bad.....you ain't seen nothin yet if you do shackles on eachside of spring....

Has 'what a shackle is' been said? Shackles are used on all leaf spring setups because as a spring compresses, it actually gets longer, and vice versa for when it droops. The shackle allows for this to happen...and if there wasn't a shackle, the suspension would be very rough...almost like your riding on no suspension. A shackle is placed on an end of the leaf spring. If there were two shackles on one leaf spring(one in front, one in rear), the axle would flop around like crazy and crazy scary 'i wrecked my truck' stuff will happen.
