Went to a Junkyard today!!

Well I went to the Canton Auto Salvage today right smack dab in the middle of the hood ( I didn't know that at first). Anyways They had about 10 rangers and a couple explorers with center consoles and OHC's. I brought a list with me that had everything I needed to get at a Junkyard well this place had about 90% of the stuff (very surprised), But I didn't know it was a Pick n pull so I didn't bring any tools (sooooo pissed). I was looking for a front skid plate, T-case skid plate, arm rest with cup holder and the plastic floor trim pieces that holds the carpet down they had all this. So needless too say I will be venturing back there with some friends this time, hopefully soon. If any of you guys want me to get something for you just tell me, I might not be going back for at least a week but let me know if you want something.

Onto the Questions. They had a Tan 02 Ranger that i believe was a 4x4, i went to ask the guy if it had 4.10 axles in it and he wasn't sure so I went back and looked at the tag on the rear axle but couldn't read it. Here's a pic of it.

didn't 4.10 axles come stock on these years?
and it had the armrest with the cup holder in it that I wanted but have no idea how to take it off, could somebody explain how to take the armrest off?
They also had two of these:

but they both had over 100,000 miles on them :(

Should never look at the axle tag because alot of times they are long gone. Look at the sticker on the inside of the driverside door jamb.

Look under where it says 'AXLE'
97 = 8.8" 4.10 open
R7 = 8.8" 4.10 limited slip

And if I were you, and if you've got the dough, I'd for sure grab that powerdome hood!! Check the color code on your truck and that truck...they appear to be the same color.

That powerdome appears to have some damage to the front of it. Im sure you could get that fixed quite easily though.

Thanks shane. I will look at that when I go back. And ya I saw the powerdome hood and I never really considered buying it for some reason it didn't looke damaged, I was focused on other things. But it should be there when i go back. So I'll think about it.

I'm tellin' ya, with how rare those hoods are, if you are even somewhat remotely interested in swapping one on, when you see one, you really should pick it up if it's in good shape.

The pic does sorta tell a little bit on the frontedge of the driverside hood. It is a cell phone pic afterall...hard to tell. shadow?

Oh...sidenote: I've gotten in the habit of taking pics of that door sticker and pics of the vehicle itself. Makes it easy in case I'm wondering about something else about the vehicle, antoher part, part for a member, etc.

I should be going back tomorrow. I'll remember to bring my Camera this time. I'll see how much it would be for the hood if it is a reasonable price and the hood is in good shape I might pick it up.

That sometimes can be wrong info also. I changed my axle out so one would see on the door 95 saying I had 8.8 open 3.55 when I actually have R7 L/S 8.8 4.10

Anyone know a good way to change the door info?

So? Mines off too...IDK what the stock code would be for a 31spline 8.8 w/ 4.88's and a Aussie locker.... L9? lol

Keep the axle tag(if you've got it)on the axle or in the glovebox? idk.

Sure...it's possible that trucks sticker is for a 8.8LS 3.73 and it actually has 4.10s....but you know...what's the real world likelyhood that someone swapped gears on an otherwise stock truck?

Went back to that Junkyard today, couldn't find anybody else who wanted to go so It was just me. I picked up a front skid plate, a transfer case skid plate and an armrest with the cupholder in it, So happy I got these things only paid $70 for it all. I took a pic of the powerdome hood off the 02. This is its only damage and that little pit hole beside it he said he would sell it for $30.

I'm so glad i picked this up.
Anybody know how much it might cost to get that hood fixed up in that pic above?
Also that tan Ranger has 4:10 Open gears, Should I try and find a 4:10 Limited Slip? whats the real difference, or advantages/disadvantages?
