New to Forum And Looking @ a Ranger
Sorry to just be another noob asking questions, but I gotta start somewhere.
I am looking at a 2000 Ford Ranger.
It has: 4.0 V6, Auto Tranny, 4x4, No Rust, 104k Miles, PW, PL, PM, and a Bed Cover. The exterior has the usual little scratches and a few dings for its age, but otherwise is great looking. The stealership wants $6300 OR a nice offer. My first reaction was $6300 was way too much.
What should I offer?
My second question:
Once I get a Ranger, I want to throw a PA Body Lift on it. Will I still be able to haul things in the bed or tow a light trailer? And would I ever have to worry about the lift coming loose and the truck falling off the frame or any other problems?
(That's getting a little ridiculous, but you get my point.)
Thanks, from another noob.

Welcome to R-F. I would offer them maybe $5500-$5800 for the truck and see what they say. The worst that could happen is they say no. And as long as you do everything correctly on the bodylift, the cab wont fall off. And yes, you can still haul and tow things.
4x4 and 2wd are in a whole different league price wise. but offer $5500-$5800, dealers always start high anyways. that seams reasonable for a solid 4x4 with good options. also, you will still be able to tow and haul no problem with a body lift. welcome!!!
Good luck in your truck search. I would check NADA.com, KBB.com. But even better, check Craigslist, or your local want advertiser type publication.
I don't know how often NADA updates but you may find some better than blue book prices. At least they will give you an idea of prices in your area. I don't know if demand has gone down since the fuel price spike.
Here is one in Grand Rapids:
2000 Ford Ranger XLT 4X4 EXTENDED CAB ** SUPER CLEAN ** SEE PIC'S
Good to check. It may give you bargaining power at least.

Def. try to talk them down. After all, gas prices could spike again, poor economy, small truck with poor MPG, you wanted the MPG of the 4 cyl (even though not a 4x4) or the 3.0 and besides, a 4x4 doesn't really interest you, but if the price is right...
Good luck, let us know what ends up happening.

if ur gonna do a body lift..do ur self a favor and make sure it has 4.10 gears so ur not like me wanting to do a body lift but cant afford the $1200 gear swap u have to do to get rid of the 3.73's since ur gonna be running 33's
Ranger
Well, I test drove it today. Rides pretty nice for a truck and I was surprised at how high you sit. I'm gonna start talkin to the dealer tomorrow. As for now, I'm gonna wait on the body lift and just get some 31" A/T's and a nicer exhaust system.
Sounds like a sharp Ranger.
Dealers prices are geared to having a trade-in,
so if you're buying it outright, you can always
get it cheaper.
$5800 would be a fair price, but no harm in
offering lower and seeing how desperate he
is to sell......

Well, screw that Ranger. Took it to my mechanic today...thing is a piece of crap, has numerous oil leaks and other fun stuff.
I found another one by a private seller. It's a '98 but only 74k miles and no rust, which is rare in Michigan. I'll keep you guys updated.
P.S. - How many posts before you can put up pictures in threads?

price is about right on bb but i would still try to jew them down some. if you bodylift the truck you will have to have a reese hitch to tow stuff you will no longer be able to use the bumber to tow with unless you dont lift the bumber.
i like this plan
