Okay, to start off, 2006 Sport 2wd. I cranked my bars a bit to try and somewhat level out the truck. Took it to NTB for an alignment afterwards and they installed those eccentric bolts/washers to get it aligned properly. this week I noticed a metallic noise when it hits potholes and such. I thought my ball joints or rod ends were going.

Just lifted the truck and pulled one of the wheels to have a look see, noticed the upper arm at the rear mount bushing is a loose fit on the new eccentric bolt/washer. I can grab the arm and it moves in and out with a metallic sound where it pivots on those bolts. Did they use the wrong size bolt, maybe with a smaller diameter ? Can I tighten this ?

 

Go back to the shop. Make them tighten it and recheck the alignment. If they were torqued properly, they won't be loose....even if the bolts are a size too small.

 

That can be done first thing in the morning. I don't see how any torque specs would apply when the washers don't sit flat to the mount ????

 

Looks like the wrong cam washers or they didn't put them on right.

 

yeah, they did it wrong, take it back and make them fix it. First off, if the eccentrics are going to be "half way", the washers should be pointed down, not up, and secondly, if you can move the arm, it's loose. The mounting bracket should squeeze in to the sleeves in the middle of the bushing, capturing it.

 

So, if they were installed correctly, with the washers in the down position, would they sit flat on the mount like I'd expect they shoud ?

 

Yes, yes they would. Take it back and slap a *****.

 

Done ! The guy put the small spacer washers on the outside by the nut and bolt head instead of between the mount and large eccentric washer. It rides fine now and all noises are gone. I went to a different older location, if those other guy's screwed it to start with, I hate to have them try again.

Funny, my first thought when I saw the cockeyed washers was to add washers in the same spot. I hate not doing things myself, I'm from the "if you want it done right you gotta do it yourself" school and I believe this more everyday. To bad I have no room for an alignment machine here at the house.
