$2 Copper mod

I hated my old gear shift ball. The face plate was gone and it looked ugly. So, I have been thinking about different items that can be tapped to fit my lever. I was at Lowe's today and this is how it turned out. Let me know what you think. I love it.

Not so much.

Needs something more to finish it.

woody99stpsde 02-07-2009 07:22 PM

wtf...thats kinda random...and different but if you like it then have fun...thats gotta feel really odd when your shiftin too

rangerboy101 02-07-2009 07:24 PM

ehh. not really my thing.

Ngabr1 02-07-2009 07:24 PM

honestly, I'm not feelin it...it looks really out of place

bugz1racing 02-07-2009 07:27 PM

All I know is that it is going to be really hard lighting it and shifting at the same time. It needs a screen also. LOL

04blackedge 02-07-2009 07:30 PM

That belongs in a random things stuck on a gear shift thread.

I think a golf ball is cooler...

jtslmn720 02-07-2009 07:37 PM

would work in a rat rod, but not your truck

tonkaranger04 02-07-2009 07:44 PM

ummmmmmmmmmmmm.... different

dakota772 02-07-2009 07:45 PM

Damn, I surprised no one liked it. I thought I would get at least one "thumbs-up". Oh well, I like the way it looks and feels. I'm glad someone mentioned ratrod cuz that is the direction I'm going.

Bumpncarstereo 02-07-2009 07:48 PM

get some end caps for it, would be better.

Excellent suggestion, I think I will go to Lowe's tomorrow and get some. Thanks!

Fx4wannabe01 02-07-2009 07:54 PM

gonna have to make that 90 longer with short stubs to solder the caps onto it...

thesoundmaster 02-07-2009 08:01 PM

I like it, it's different... I'd find a way to solder a cap on the ends of the elbow... give it a finished look.

Best shifter I've seen though, is on my neighbor's 65 Chevy C10 rat rod/street truck.... a beer tap handle! Sucker sits about mid level with the windshield, think it's a Newcastle tap handle if I'm not mistaken

korey89 02-07-2009 08:04 PM

^ yeah those are really popular, and almost getting played out now. I see them at car shows all the time lol.

As for the copper shift knob, I'd just save up for a whole Hurst shifter and call it a day but that's just me. An actual shift knob would work better too, for shift knobs you want something heavy. Maybe get a dummy grenade or something, that would be a little cooler.

Jeez some of you guys are harsh. Know what might be kind of cool is fitting an entire piece of copper pipe for the shift level and then out a T on top of that for the handle. Now that would be cool.

Tim's had it on his truck for a few years now though, and I haven't seen many around here with em.

Be expensive as hell though. Copper is really really expensive. Doing that would be an easy $75-$100... not to mention copper is a real soft metal so it wouldn't be ideal for a shifter

robert99ranger 02-07-2009 08:26 PM

Mmm, not feeling it bro.

fx4me 02-07-2009 08:33 PM

This is a joke right? You got bored and found a copper elbow laying around?

It could be cool on some old-ass farm truck or something. But clashes with the style you're going for with your truck.

Yeah i know, you would probably have to sleeve it with something. It would be cool though.

I know some of you think these are played out too much. But I had these laying around. Would this look better than the current setup?
