this looks just like a taurus with a fivehead.
powertrain is just like the other larger ford/lincolns here. Only difference is they will have the option of the 2.0t, instead of just the 3.7n/a.

I would never buy any vehicle with a v-motor mounted transversely.

I would much rather have an AWD 2011 Edge Sport in black.

Those are so nice, much better styling than the Explorer IMO.

awd on this vehicle is just a form of traction control.

I cant wait to test drive one when they come out this winter.
If it is anywhere near as comfortable as the Taurus, I will buy it.
I understand its not a heavy hauler, or off road king, but thats not what I need in a family vehicle.
Its safe, economical, and I like how it looks. The headlights and taillights are beautiful.
So when I take a road trip with the family- I can fit everyone in it, have plenty of cargo room for supplies, and get 25+ mpg.
Thats a big selling point for me....

Reason to redesign....
"The Explorer was the US’s most popular SUV during the 1990s, with sales reaching a peak of 445,000 units in 2000, equal to 11 per cent of total Ford sales."

"But by last year, sales had tumbled to 52,200, or 3 per cent of the total, as Americans moved towards smaller, more fuel-efficient crossovers and sedans."

So Ford now builds the explorer on the taurus frame, I can see the problems that this vehicle will have down the road now. I remember the problems their windstar had cause it was built on the taurus frame.
The new explorer is ugly looking! I understand Ford wants to call it a XUV and kill the SUV image, they should of just rebadged it cause it will confuse many.

It does look cool to me, and I like it. But only being able to tow 5k sounds a bit weak to me. Heck the expo you can buy now with the v-8 can to 10k+. But I suppose if you needed a family hauler that towed you would just get a F150 crew cab. I think they will do well. Ford hasn't made a car that doesn't do well lately. They all seem to be flying off the lots.
