For those of you wondering what the hell is that, it's the US Army's Cobra Attack Helicopter. There's one of these a few miles from work, figured since I had my new camera with me I'd snap a few pics.











I took similar photos with my old camera back in 2007. Since then they've repainted the helicopter and I've done some mods to the truck. After looking at the photos, well... I guess my truck didn't look as good as I thought it did back then.

When I was a kid, every once in a while I would see the AH64's flying in groups over my parent's house. Now where I'm living, we only have tanker planes and cargo planes flying over. Although one day we were graced with having a B-52 fly over before an air show. I could have screamed what the F*** is that?! at the top of my lungs, and nobody would've been able to hear me for about 20 seconds. It was pretty damn cool.

 

Yeah, the Marine Corp's Cobras are being upgraded to 4 blades, and stronger engines. Allot more performance!!

 

Cool, are stronger engines the reason to have four blades vs. two blades? I never even thought about that.

 

4 blades provide more lift so the engines don't have to work as hard, plus stronger engines provide more thrust, so both combined provide a more maneuverable and faster helicopter.

 

Nice. I wonder why they wouldn't have just used 4 blades in the beginning. Maybe it was to save room when shipping them to their stations?

 

Probably money, and maybe the technology wasn't available back then.
