Callin it pretty close. My buddy's dad's GMC 2500 doesn't fit into the garage lengthwise unless he nudges the washer and dryer into the wall. Good thing you don't have that problem. You oughta do the headlight mod

jrpro130 01-06-2009 10:27 PM

I agree, harley headlights and grill ;)

the modding will never stop. I'd be content with exactly how you have your truck, +remote start, line-x (i didn't see if you have it or not), plug in gps, intake, exhaust, programmer, plugs/wires, and MAYBE HID's...but I doubt it. and definetly a toolbox...but I prefer the inside the rails tool chest. I woudl love the truck like that :) I'm jealous. But I really want a diesel :(

Melt 01-06-2009 10:41 PM

beautiful truck ... sucks about the registration though, too bad you didnt have the foresight to leave the jetta tagged at shanes lol

brianjwilson 01-06-2009 10:52 PM

I would also love line-x, but I'm not about to pay $475 for it. A buddy and I sprayed some bedliner is the tub of his Jeep and it came out awsome, but I can't remember what brand it was, and I don't have a sprayer. It supposedly looks just as good rolled on though.
Remote start is a possibility. I know that whatever company makes the ford remote starters sells a cheaper aftermarket kit that works with the factory locks and everything with less wiring than some kits. I have a Garmin Nuvi, and a Garmin Aviation GPS with XM weather and radio and streetmaps, and I have an xcal 2 tuner. The 6-cd changer also plays MP3's.
So the things I really want but won't get for a while are intake, exhaust... I'm keeping my eyes open for nice used bed covers or caps, but I'm very picky about what goes on it.
I'll probably do the black headlight mod at some point, and maybe reverse the emblems (polished look on the lettering, flat black on the surrounds).

What I really want for the truck is one of these, since I end up with lots of free time with my job. I would love to be able to get around and travel more without trying to tent camp or pay for hotels.

But my plan when I moved here was to pay down some old credit card debt so I'm trying not to go crazy with the truck right now. A few more small things and it will keep me happy for a while. Hopefully in a couple years I'll move back to Oregon where I can get out and use the truck more and I'll mod if more then...

Haha!
I'm surprised he isn't offering to pay someone to take that.

Sonic04Edge 01-07-2009 01:19 AM

Looks great man. Looks like what it should of been stock!

edgeofthecliff 01-07-2009 02:02 AM

Rig looks sweet. Though I never knew shocks alone can raise a truck.

He probably has the 2in coil lift for the front. That's why he ran 2in higher shocks for the front.

no the shocks are like a strut/coilover on the front of the f150s, so the stem is probably longer or how the coil mounts on the shock is different to add more height.

Zach, the tint is 15%, but it is also 15% over the rear factory tint so the back is still darker than the front. Anything from 15-20% will be a good match to the rear windows though if you want them all the same, people claim the factory is something like 18%. I went with additional tint over the back because I don't like people to see in the back seat. It's dark enough back there now (especially with black interior) that you don't really notice anything in there.
FWIW, I actually wanted to go a little lighter in the front this time (like around 20%). But the installed convinced me not to. He said if the front was much lighter the contrast between the two windows would make the rear windows seem black at night, and light coming in the front would reflect on the back windows.

The front actually still sits a little lower on mine, maybe 3/4" to 1" if you measure the body lines. The wheel wells are fairly close, though I haven't measured. I still think the Bilsteins and airbags in the rear would work perfect for you. Plus 35's on 20's look sweet if you go that route.

Good score on the free tool box. I'm not sure what I'll do for extra storage yet. I might consider a used cap IF I found the right one and IF I found the right deal. Some of the caps look like garbage and don't match the flow of the truck well. I also really like the Bakflip bed cover, but they are spendy. If I get a toolbox it would be a low-pro (ideally black) box. Unless it was free then I may be more flexible, lol.

i almost scored a set of free 20s but he backed out. Those dang tires for even 18s are expensive, 20s are just that much worse.

I have seen some good looking caps but not that many.

I am going to do this...

http://www.tptools.com/p/2600,233_U-...Liner-Kit.html

heard it looks just like line-x, I have that silly plastic liner and stuff slides around all over. hate those things.

Love the truck! I know what you mean about feeling like an old man, it kills me too but then i drive the ranger and feel better. LOL

Sea-Bass 01-07-2009 07:58 AM

Truck looks great, if I buy/had an F150 thats how I would want it to look, it looks just right! Not to much lift, not to much tire, not to high...perfect IMO! I would add a Black Warn trans4mer system and winch to the front and that would be it...

Black though, chrome bad!

Thanks for the compliments.

The Bilstein shocks come with two different slots for the spring seat. When you install them you just have to decide which slot to put it on, depending on how high you want it. Plus the shock are longer over (1-2") for extra wheel travel.

Every time I lift a truck I say the same thing, "It should come that way from the factory!"

Zach that is too bad the guy backed out on the 20's. I agree the tires for 20's are spendy, but they are a more common size to find tires for now, it seems like.
Let me know how that liner turns out. I need to ask my buddy what we used. He bought the sprayer at Napa for $60 or something, it was designed to spray liners on. I could always get a compressor from someone I think. I've been waiting for warmer weather to apply a liner though, no heat in the garage.

I've never been a fan of the warn transformer grill guards. They just look too "generic" for me. The do make a hidden mount for the F150 that hides completely behind the bumper, without moving the bumper, but it's a small 9000lb winch with only a 50 ft line.
Looking up there, it sure seems like a bigger winch would fit. Some day...

jrpro130 01-07-2009 09:31 AM

I just love the way it looks. I LOVE the way they look with a 6" lift and aftermarket rims, but at the same time it's almost 'ruining' the look of it. I don't need an offroad truck...I bet that truck can pull a trailer back to any riding spot and not even go in 4wd...and you have the reliability of 'stock'

Brian I will let you know but I also do not have a very well heated garage so I have a few months to wait.

how is the mpg so far?

chevyslayer925 01-10-2009 08:39 PM

nice truck, and thanks for the parts again, i love the dub you wouldn't happen to have the stock wheels that came on it would you??

MattN03 01-10-2009 08:56 PM

Your F-150 looks awesome! Add some Harley headlights, and it'll be set.

Downey 01-10-2009 09:51 PM

looks great i want a new f150 so bad my cousin just bought a nice used titan and i want a full size really bad now

bucky919 01-10-2009 09:52 PM

Looks Good!!!

I was kind of mad when I found my F150 it has brand new tires on it, cause I wanted to level it and put 35's on it, but I guess it saved my money in the end lol. I need a bed liner for mine for sure, there wasn't a scratch in the bed when I bought it and now theres dents and scratched beyond believe. I did get some lights to put behind the grill through, cause after a couple 800 mile pulls through the night heading west with a four place snowmobile trailer and loaded with gear, theres been one of many close calls with wildlife....

Melt 01-10-2009 10:00 PM

korey89 has a pretty good write up on doing it

my dad bought a gallon so im doing the bed of my trailer tommorow probably, and he wants me to do his f150 .... im half tempted to buy some more and get rid of the bedliner in my truck

hozII 01-10-2009 10:02 PM

Great lookin truck!! Looks alot better!!!! just think of your driveway as when you wash your truck or rains, water won't stand in the bed..LOL!!!! BTW just get the wheels on the jetta powder coated black. That would be sweet! If that's your style.
