Hmm, I got in a hurry when I got gas last time and didn't pay attention.
I may gas up tomorrow and we'll see as I'm sitting less than a half tank. It seems like it's going through gas faster though, lol.
I haven't had the scangauge plugged in due to lack of a good place to put it. I thought about pulling out the ashtray or the part where the cigarette lighter is and sticking it back there. But I still don't have any good tools (after moving) to put anything together. I finally bought another drill today.

chevyslayer925,
Glad the parts came through okay. I don't have the stock Jetta wheels, it came with those wheels on it.

bucky919,
My tires still had a fair amount of life in them too, but I didn't really want them. Mine has a few dents and scratches in the bed, I'm not going to do anything with it until it warms up though. If anything I'll just get a bedmat. I do want something else for lighting though. I normally drive 40 miles to work in the dark, and 40 miles home in the dark on a two-lane country road, and have plenty of close calls with animals. Normally there is fresh roadkill about every day. I really like the hella grill but it is SO spendy.

I have mixed feelings about powder coating the wheels. A lot of people have suggested it, and I think it would be okay. Honestly though I wish it still had the factory GLI 17" 5 spoke wheels. I thought about hunting some down but I just put new tires on the 18's anyway. In the end, my wife drives it and they look 'okay' so they'll probably stay the way they are.

I am curious how much worse it is Brian! So keep us updated.

I want to do this to my truck but mpg is kind of a concern.

Are those 325/65/18s?

brianjwilson 01-11-2009 11:20 AM

The texture looks okay, but I would be embarrassed to be seen in that car, lol.

I'll let you know, Zach.
The tires are actual 35x12.50R18's.
I hear that most 325's will rub on the lower control arm at full lock. And I hear that some 35's will do the same, and in extreme cases you could have clearance issues with the upper control arm. That is all with stock 7.5" wheels with 5.5" BS. Like I said, I have no rubbing anywhere yet with these tires, but I canceled my order for Toyo M/T's in the same size because I heard the side lugs would touch the upper control arm unless you used a spacer. I think just about any A/T would be okay. If you just wanted an A/T, BFG makes a 305/65/18 that is around 34" tall and won't rub at all. That was one of my other choices...

brianjwilson 01-11-2009 11:21 AM

Oh and Jason claims to have only lost 1-2 mpg with his F150, setup the same with 325's. He's recorded it over 5k miles.

zabeard 01-11-2009 02:04 PM

that is not bad at all. Jason (rngprerunner)?

I was looking at the 325/65/18 Nitto Terra Grapplers. Probably just going to stick with the 18s that I have. I like them and tires are cheaper.

Yep, that's him. Those are the same tires he has too. They would probably be quite a bit cheaper, and better tread for a DD. They will rub the lower control arm at full lock, he says.
Here is a picture of his truck that he posted on ORR...

As for mileage, this last tank was about 13mpg. BUT, I just remembered that this was with lots of idling too. Probably 30+ minutes when I was screwing with the helicopter and charging the battery on the fuel trailer, lots of me running into stores with my wife in the truck with the heater on, long warm ups in the garage, etc. Still winter gas, all that good stuff. Having the programmer, and varying driving a lot it isn't a great example, but I'd say it's probably a solid 2mpg loss depending on driving.
Might also be worth noting that my speedo seemed slightly off with factory tires, but is now calibrated perfectly according to the GPS. I'll keep posting for a while after fill-ups, but I think it will stay about the same for a while as it's cold, and I'm not working much, making short drives around town.

Alls I know the F150 with the Firestone destination AT's saved my ass for sure today, went to turn around in a parking lot at the arctic cat dealer, pulling the four place trailer with four sleds, and well it was deeper than I thought, so I just put my foot to the floor and came to a complete stop, but I trenched my way out, the snow was up to my door, it was able to make it out, the other 3 guys thought I was stuck for sure

brianjwilson 01-12-2009 08:15 PM

I think the lights behind the grill should look cool as long as the grill doesn't create shadows and stuff..

zabeard 01-12-2009 08:16 PM
