The Jetta's Replacement

Insurance finally decided to total my wife's Jetta last week (pics here), so we had been seeking out a replacement for her. We looked at several different cars including late the model VW GTI and Jetta, Audi A3, and the new Ford Fusion Sport. We decided on a 2008 Subaru Legacy GT Limited that we found in Chicago. It was listed for almost $4k under retail, with only 5k miles on it. It was a Subaru program car, and the original invoice states that it was sold to Subaru.

Anyway it is a 2.5L turbocharged & intercooled boxer engine (basically an STI engine with a smaller turbo), making 243 horsepower and 241 lb-ft. of torque with a 5 speed manual transmission and AWD of course.
Inside it is fully loaded, moonroof, 6cd/mp3, dual zone automatic climate control, power/heated leather seats, heated mirrors and windshield wipers etc.

It is pretty fun to drive but it is also begging for mods. Window tint will come first. Then eventually exhaust, lower springs and firmer shocks, swaybars, wheels, short throw shifter etc. The free/cheap mods will hopefully be done next weekend or so.

Great looking car. Any interior shots? I love the Legacy's. My buddy finally said that when he finds a GT 5 speed he is getting it. For some reason around here they are hard to find.

I suggest this Cobb Tuning Stage II. A lil pricey but well worth it.

Definitely needs wheels. I'm not a huge fan of these wheels, but I'm thinking of having them powder-coated gunmetal gray or something. I've seen some done that way and they look alright.
They sound SICK with a good catback. I found a new in the box magnaflow someone is selling and I'm SO tempted, but I spent almost all of my reserve money on helping with the down payment, and paying taxes. I haven't put anything on a credit card in so long but it may break me... lol

If/when I get the accessport I will probably get one from PDXtuning, I have heard their programming is much better. I'll run stage 1 for a while though if I do it, because I don't want an aftermarket downpipe until warranty is run out.
Well I say that now but we'll see after a while.

great choice! out of all the cars you listed that you looked at, the Suby is superior IMO. Cant wait to see it progress as you start moding!

Alright here are a few interior pictures I just snapped. They suck because it is dark in the garage.
The only thing I don't like about the car is the light interior with woodgrain. We REALLY wanted another black interior, but the deal was good, the car is like new, hasn't been smoked in, etc. Literally every car we looked at around here had been smoked in. This car still has the new car smell and feel.

I have been pretty easy on it so far actually. I figure if my wife only sees me drive it easy, she will be more likely to drive it 'nicely' as well.

I have also heard that from a few people.
But I have also heard of a handful of guys modded to 400+ HP on the stock tranny with a clutch kit and they have been holding up fine, even making several 1/4 mile runs.
Either way I won't be running it that hard.

Damn slick car. I love the way those look. And that interior is damn nice too. I like the light leather with the black dash and woodgrain.
