Control Arm Swap :)

In between getting all of the engine stuff started, and collecting parts, I've been looking for some control arms (mine are still the original 90 versions) and came across these on sale. Really wanted some Maximum Motorsports upper's and lower's but just couldn't swing it, especially after trying to get the H/C/I swap parts rounded up. So I figured mine are beyond "DONE" so I'll get replacements in there and later on down the road we'll step up...on to the pics:

What's in the box?

Greatness....that's what

Then the shennanigans began.....REALLY???WTF??? stupid quad shock:

Hooray for bushings:

Yum:

Lower in it's new home:

22 y/o control arm....BUH BYE:

Some bolt with that corrosion?

BUUUUUUUUHHHHH BYE!

Stock upper's that are SMOKED:

What a difference these made....it's amazing what little bushings will do for feel and handling....no more clunking. Car feels alot tighter, and the ride is a lot smoother. I had to beat some of those old bolts out (I'm sure you can see why) which I'm sure were causing the binding. All in all, well worth the money, even though they are cheapo's, they are better than the broken down 22 year old stock OEM control arms.

Worked on the Gt40's a little bit today as well. Prepping them for a trip to the hot tank for cleaning. Get them all purdy and ready for re-assembly with new springs and seals :)

Really happy how this is turning out. Need opinions, what color for the stock valve cover's?

Blue. Ford Blue. Use Rustoleum Farm Equipment paint. Even if you brush it on, it still ends up looking nice and smooth... good paint. Consider painting the intake blue as well... I think it would look neat.

HAHAH appreciate the input guys....just spent hours media blasting and sanding, priming the intake....it's staying black LOL...as far as the valve cover's I've been getting alot of Ford Grey or Gloss Black to match the upper intake and heads.

Install date is hopefully in the next 2-3 weeks....we'll see.

The intake, I was talking about the lower, not the upper. Obviously redoing the upper in blue after having to prep it all over again is stupid.

At least do the valve covers in Ford blue.

do the lower intake and valve covers in gray. blue will be far to much contrast and will look very odd

Been looking around here and there for valve covers. I really didn't want to have to remove the baffles out of stock one's or beat on them like most people say they had to in order to clear 1.7 rr's. Had looked at a set of black chrome powder coated cover's, that looked really nice, but not sure about the clearance on the rockers. So a good friend of mine, thankfully had squirreled these away awhile ago, and was nice enough to let me give them a new home:

Carroll Shelby is in Henderson, NV @ http://www.shelbyautos.com and had nothing to do with the 93-95 Cobra builds. The # does still go to the SVT performance support team though :)

I didn't realize those were from a 93-95 cobra. I saw Cleveland and assumed. I was even wondering how a set of valve covers for a cleveland motor would bolt up to a Windsor set of heads.

You know that's a good question. I know that 93 cobra's were ASSEMBLED @ Dearborn, but I have no idea if the motor's were assembled elsewhere and then later united in their final engine bays at dearborn later on.

I know they built 302s here but I dunno if it was only the truck motors. 351's were built here too.

Actually no...I'm going to clean them up, but for the most part leave them alone. I really like the fact that they still have the sticker's on them, and I want to keep it that way....I like stuff like this, plus it leaves the mind wandering to those who know what they are looking at....

"Why does he have 93-95 cobra valve cover's on a 90 coupe....*MORE LOOKING* ohhhhhhhh he has gt40 heads.......*more Looking* oh he has longtubes........*more looking* ohhhhhhhhhhhhh it's a 25th anniversary car.....*more looking* wait what? LOL

see what I'm getting at? makes people think.....plenty of mustangs out there with "pretty" chrome "ford Racing or powered by ford" valve covers....kind taking a different approach :)

So after spending the weekend trolling through pick-n-pull's and wrench-a-parts up in the Dallas/Ft.Worth area, I thought I was going to end up going home empty handed. Now I dunno about you guys, but I've learned regardless if the car is absolutly DESTROYED, I still dig a little bit and see what's inside the car. If I look the car over, and find evidence of performance goodies than I really start digging. So at a certain yard I found two little fox bodies, both well.....destroyed:

The car on the left, had BBK header's (destroyed) and I noticed the lower intake gasket laying on the passenger side of the car, and looked like a trick-flow/holley systemax setup. So I started digging some more, and found in the trunk, UNDER the spare tire and jack, this little piece:

SO I about fall over, being I found this in the trunk...and both of these cars are PICKED over.....well what was pick-able...so I finish walking around and head back up to the counter, and the young girl at the cashier says "$16 dollars sir" Thank you very much, ends up it's a 76mm C&L with a 24# sample tube in it, so now I'm on the hunt for 24# injector's or a 19# sample tube....

yeah going to clean it up a little bit, and either:

1. Find a used\buy new a 19lb injector sample tube (cheap route)
2 Buy a used/buy new 24 lb injector's

found that it came with a "black" sample tube, which is setup for a conical filter (K&N attached directly to the maf with 24's) and I have access to a "blue" tube that a friend has, that is willing to sell to me (which is the cold air/stock airbox with 24's)

yeah those two little fox bodies were in really bad shape. The one on the left (red car) must have been really moving when it was hit/crashed.... passenger frame rails are twisted up like a pretzel.
