Hi I just joined this site! I’m 18 and don’t know too much about rust since I am from Florida. I’m interested in this 2005 Ford Ranger and there is rust in the undercarriage. I was hoping to get some insight on what I should do. Should I buy this truck and hope it’s just surface rust? Anything helps. Thank you all. I’ve provided some pictures to show you guys what the situation is like.

Car has been carfaxed.
No accidents. Serviced frequently. Passed safety inspections.

 

Does Florida require used cars purchases to pass a safety inspection ?

Is the seller willing to have that done before purchase ?

 

Yes Florida does. I did a CARFAX on the car actually. The car was purchased by the second owner who lived in florida. So it already passed its safety inspection.

 

run...don't walk away from that rust bucket...You can find a better one.

 

believe they only do VIN checks in FL when you go to title/register vehicle

 

I’m looking at the oily coating on the left brake backing plate.

Would have to pull that drum off before buying. Might be gear oil / axle seal.

At this point with the crinkled blue paint, i would pass.

I have an 05 4x4 Edge. Mine is almost car show clean. 181,000 miles.
Did the rear axles seals and bearings quite a while back.
